DOUBLING DOWN ON Impact Competition! After years of taking a shotgun approach to philanthropy, I’ve realized that the best way to make a difference is to pick a select few causes that deeply resonate with you AND where you can personally have the most tangible impact. That is why this year, I decided to even more heavily invest into Impact Competition. What I love about getting involved with small orgs is that I never feel like I’m just another drop in an infinitely bigger bucket. I get to see the impact firsthand. I believe deeply in experiential education. When you expose students to the social problems in their own communities, then empower them to actually build solutions, you can change the trajectory of how they think about their ability to make a difference for the rest of their lives. That is why our motto is Compounding Positive Change. We aren’t just trying to solve one problem today. We’re trying to create a generation of students who spend their lives believing they can solve the hard meaningful problems around them. We already reach nearly 500 students per year. My goal now is to turn Impact Competition into a national organization, with competitions throughout the country and reach 10x that amount. The first step has been hiring a best-in-class fundraising team to help us build the infrastructure to scale Impact Comp into what I believe it deserves to become. Jensen Huang explains how he designed NVIDIA from first principles “With respect to building a company, the first thing you have to do—as with all problems—is start from first principles. What is this machine that we’re trying to create? What is its input? What is its output? What are the conditions that it’s in? What is the industry like? Is it a fast moving industry? Is it a bureaucratic industry? Is it a highly regulated industry?
