The technology has already helped people with severe paralysis use computers and phones again. Musk says it could eventually help people walk by bypassing damaged areas of the spinal cord. It has enabled people who have completely lost their brain-body connection to speak again (phone, computer). We believe it will enable people to walk again. Let’s say someone had a severe spinal injury, you can transmit those signals to a second neural implant, and reanimate the body so people can use their limbs. We think at some point, live a normal life by effectively bridging the signals from the brain to past the point in the spine where the damage has occurred. Later this year, we expect to do our first implant for Blindsight. Where even if someone has lost both eyes, or the optic nerve, or perhaps if they were blind at birth, it will give them initially limited vision, but over time, very precise vision. Perphaps Superhuman." We should be talking about this more.

But then over time — as you make progress — the evidence will build and more and more people will believe in what you’re doing.” So, Elon argues, the first thing you should do when starting a company is create a good demo or mock-up so that people can really envision what it’s about. “Try to get to that point as soon as possible, and then iterate to make it as real as possible, as fast as possible.” A good example of this is the Tesla Roadster. Tesla debuted the concept vehicle in 2006 with a famous photograph of co-founder J. B. Straubel driving California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Tesla was a long way from mass-producing the Roadster at any level of affordability, but the demo made their vision more real and helped Tesla secure additional funding. Vision is an absolute marvel of Divine Engineering. It requires a minimum of 3 systems working together from the start, or we don't see. 1. Eyes to capture light & convert into signals 2. Pathways to transport the signal 3. A brain to process it Evolution can't build it one step at a time, because there is no vision until all those systems exist and function together. Compounding the complexity further, each of those 3 systems themselves require a minimum number of more complex subsystems to function properly. For instance, all eyes require opsin proteins. Opsin is a highly complex protein that holds a special light-sensitive molecule called retinal; when a single photon hits the retinal, it instantly flips shape, triggering the opsin to change its 3D shape and trigger a precise cascade which converts the light into an electrical signal to be sent to the brain where it can be understood as vision. Vision is an absolute marvel of Divine Engineering. It requires a minimum of 3 systems working together from the start, or we don't see. 1. Eyes to capture light & convert into signals 2.
