I would recommend that we at least have some sort of informal weekly or biweekly call and that there’s maybe a week or two weeks of early access by competitors. This is why I think the incentives... work, competing companies are likely to understand if something is a security risk and they’re not going to be shy about highlighting that their competitors’ models should be delayed in release. The incentive structure does work quite well there. It’s similar to how the Motion Picture Association works as an industry group that decides how movies should be rated. That seems to have worked quite well. You really just have to ask the government to intervene if a company is doing something very dangerous and refuses to take action to reduce the danger, which is literally what just occurred with Mythos after Amazon highlighted the cybersecurity risks and called the White House.show more

It's some financial institution that Elizabeth Warren set up. We're not a bank, what does Meta have to do with this? They came up with some theory and were trying really hard to make it work. I don't know how this stuff works -- is it a directive? A quiet consensus? It's tough to be at the other end of that. The US Government should be defending its companies, not at the tip of the spear attacking its companies. The EU has fined the tech companies more thsn $30B over the last 10-20 years. This is a EU wide policy for how they want to deal with tech, it's kind of like a tariff. The US Government led the attacks against their companies which gave permission for the EU and other countries to go after US companies as well. I think that the American tech industry is a bright spot in the US economy, it's a strategic advantage, and it should be part of the US' strategy going forward to defend that. I am optimistic about that with Trump, I think he just wants the US to win. At least in the US we have rule of law, you get your day in court, and we usually win, but other countries don't have that. If the US wants to remain strong, the US has to have a role in defending their tech."

It should be up to the people what they think. And even if an article is completely accurate, comprehensive, and everything, in writing that article, the media is choosing the narrative. They're deciding what to write an article about. So, I'm hopeful that this can be more a case of the public choosing the narrative as opposed to the media choosing the narrative. At least a combination of the media and the public choosing the narrative, and the public getting to weigh in on stories if they think that they should add something to it, or we've got something wrong. And over time, I think if Twitter is the best source of truth, it will succeed. And if we are not the vessels of truth, we will fail.” Interview with the BBC, April 12, 2023
