My social media friends and family, I want to share a pop culture story with you that is deeply personal to me about my daughter, Jewel, and the rise of the sensational K-Pop grout BTS. As BTS prepares for their comeback performance tomorrow from their military service, some stories deserve to be told the right way. Years ago, my daughter, Jewel, met a group of young men from South Korea who were in Los Angeles working, learning, and pursuing something they believed in. The world didn’t know them yet. They weren’t global icons. They were just young artists trying to find their way. That group was BTS. Jewel’s meeting them happened in a way that still feels serendipitous—and very much like her. While out to dinner in Los Angeles, exuding that natural warmth and vivaciousness she carried everywhere, she was approached by a band member and asked if she would be part of their reality TV show. She said yes, the way she always did to new experiences and new people. That moment led to her participation in their reality series "American Hustle Life," and from there, she was also invited to be part of their “Boy in Luv” LA music video. What began as a simple, genuine interaction—just Jewel being Jewel—quietly became something much bigger. When Jewel first arrived on set she saw something in them immediately. Not just talent—she saw who they were. Their kindness. Their humility. Their work ethic. Their respect for others. She told them they were going to go far. And she came home and told me the same thing… “Dad, they’re going to be stars.” She didn’t say it casually. She meant it. And she was right. Today, the world knows BTS for what they have accomplished—historic musical firsts in the United States, breaking barriers, filling stadiums, speaking at the United Nations, addressing anti-Asian hate crimes at the White House, and bringing people together across cultures and languages. But what makes me proud isn’t just their success. It’s that Jewel recognized their character before the world recognized their fame. After Jewel passed, something profound happened that I will never forget. The group reached out to me and then their fanbase—ARMY—showed up. Not in a small way. Not for a moment. But in a global, unified, compassionate movement. They helped tell Jewel’s story. They helped raise awareness about the defective Takata airbag that took her life. At first glance, it just looks like a stunning painting. Then you step back and realize you’re looking at one of the most impossibly detailed works of art you’ve ever seen... Around 1620, in Antwerp, an unnamed Flemish painter set out to gather the city’s most famous artworks into a single piece, but what he ultimately chose to do with it will never cease to amaze me. Now held at the National Gallery in London, this painting is called Cognoscenti in a Room hung with Pictures, and it is, technically speaking, one of the most vertiginous acts of illusionism in the Western canon. Eleven richly dressed men — artists, dealers, collectors, the cognoscenti of the title — move through a vast imagined gallery, discussing and inspecting its contents. But the figures are almost beside the point. What stops you are the walls. From floor to ceiling, they are covered with meticulous miniature copies of real works by sixteenth- and seventeenth-century masters, mostly from Antwerp, assembled as an ideal gathering of the finest things the city had to offer. Paintings within a painting. A museum compressed into a canvas. This is what scholars call a Kunstkammer, or "cabinet of curiosities", and the genre carried real social weight. To collect art in the Dutch and Flemish Golden Age was a declaration, not merely a pleasure. The cognoscenti shown here are pretentious by design: richly dressed, surrounded by coins, medals, and Persian rugs. Every object is a signal of wealth. And then — almost invisible, sitting on the windowsill at the edge of the composition — there is the monkey. The picture celebrates the pleasures of collecting and the erudition of art appreciation. But the monkey, a traditional symbol of the foolishness of human endeavors, sits there as a reminder of the frivolity and ultimate futility of buying expensive things. He is mocking them... these men so devoted to hoarding precious objects, when perhaps their hours might have been spent on something less perishable. It is one of the most elegant acts of subversion in art history: a painter who spent months lovingly reproducing the work of other painters, in obsessive miniature detail, and then placed a fool's emblem in the corner to ask whether any of it matters... It is simultaneously a love letter to art and an indictment of what happens when love turns into possession. The cognoscenti in the room are not wrong to find beauty worth pursuing, but they have perhaps confused the pursuit with the trophy. 💔💔💔💔URGENT HELP NEEDED💔💔💔💔 Today we were sent this video of this poor dog begging for food, desperate for attention at a supermarket. Hours later she was still there, begging for attention from anyone near but just ignored 💔 She had a collar and after speaking to a few locals they managed to track down the family of who she belonged to. The owner had sadly died recently and the family didn’t want her anymore so threw her out. Now the poor girl spends her time staying local and trying to find her owner 💔 Our hearts are absolutely broken for this girl, once a beloved pet and now her owners heartless family have thrown her out like trash 💔 Our rescuer couldn’t take her today as she had an onward journey but she is safe in a locals yard and we can get her to pension tomorrow if we raise her funds.
