The 252-pound endangered tapir calf swam, frolicked, snuffled through the grass, chomped on sticks and snacks, and chirped with pure tapir joy. See 5-month-old Ume and her mom, Yuna, explore the waterfall habitat again this Saturday and Sunday, July 12 & 13.

Tapir mom, Yuna, was enjoying her swimming session and encouraging Ume to join (that’s the “hiccup” sound you hear).

The rare and endangered tapir calf is 23 days old today. She is growing fast and will soon outgrow her stripes and spots, which will fade around six months of age. Ume and her mom, Yuna, will be viewable to guests later this spring once she gets a little older and the weather warms up.
