It’s early but the first story of week is already developing. Last week Brandon Berry was 12th alternate. A few days ago he sent me a message asking if other alternates were on site. At that time he was 5th alternate. There were a few, but since he lives in South Florida decide to come, since it’s only an hour flight. He moved all the way to first by this morning. And now he has heard that a player might be sick and he might have a tee time. Making the story that more compelling is how he is in the alternate position. Last year at 2nd to last finals event Berry missed the cut by one. On Friday he accidentally played the wrong ball, resulting in a two stroke penalty. Because of that he finished 76th in points, missing out on retaining his full card by one stroke over the entire season. Had he made the cut he was almost assured of keeping it. Devastating mistake, but now possibly a chance to change that this week. He will get a good amount of starts but a made cut here goes a long way. Also Brandon and his family are great people, it’s easy to cheer for him.

Grey's Anatomy was one of the most successful shows in the history of television & Eric Dane was one reason why. I think strong casting & strong writing was this show’s formula for success. Dane fit in seamlessly to a really talented cast that worked well together. RIP, McSteamy.

Trans activist Alexandra Billings has recalled her experience working on 'Grey's Anatomy' in a touching tribute to the late Eric Dane. Posting to her social media on 20 February, Billings spoke about how Dane helped fight to keep her trans storyline in the show as authentic as possible. Billings played trans woman Donna Gibson in the season three episode 'Where the Boys Are', which aired in 2006. In the video, she recounts how Dane asked her questions about her own transition, listening intently so he knew how to hand the scene they were filming together. She continues to talk about how Dane fought to keep part of her storyline in the episode when it was cut. She said: "That was extraordinary... Eric Dane showed everyone on that set what a true ally looks like. It’s not just talk.”

At last some coherent reporting on the loss of HMNZS Manawanui. News that the Navy refuses to release. A crew member from one of the rescue ships reports that the ship was observed upright on the reef at 10 pm local time Saturday. He also says the crew had already abandoned the ship and were in six boats (4 life rafts and 2 ribs) that had drifted some distance to the west. At that time, he did not observe any smoke coming from the ship, but did see smoke at sunrise the next day. (but no flames) At this stage the ship had only a slight list. The observer also reports that the area is relatively free of debris and has only a slight diesel slick near the wreck. So at this stage it is not the environmental disaster some parties have been predicting. This information comes courtesy of Radio New Zealand’s Morning Report. The takeaways are- 1) the ship was still upright and was fully lit at the time it was abandoned. 2) There was no fire apparent until early morning of the next day. 3) The ship was not noticed listing until sunrise and then only slightly. 4) There is no environmental disaster so far.
