Even when there is a positive story about EVs the legacy media cannot help itself to misinform.. Firstly, considering that Tesla produces almost 3,000 vehicles a day, to say that making “600“ or 1/5th as many is “STAGGERING” is just nonsense and certainly doesn’t justify the heightened intonation and...

Like my father before me, I used to trust the @abcnews. But not anymore. When you happen to know more than a bit about a topic, you start to see how one sided and agenda driven their stories are. On X they only publish their "safe" stories. And is it a coincidence that they don't allow comments on their stories on X?

lol. Chinese Teslas are mostly exported (with better build quality than built elsewhere). You're talking about all Teslas built in a day globally, that 600 number spoken about was from one factory. Geely have the most popular EV sold in China. Tesla is the best-selling foreign EV

No, I was talking about the cars coming out of just the Shanghai factory. Tesla builds twice as many cars globally, ~480,000 cars sold in Q2.

Maybe they want to watch this first. I can't verify for its accuracy either but another side perhaps.

🎯 That’s exactly what I mean. It nothing short of gas lighting. How can you do a factual story on Chinese cars and not only completely ignore the best-selling car in that market but completely remove any trace of it from reality?

That is one factory in a Chinese market with over 100 company's producing EV's. The US has import restrictions on EV's, as soon as BYD lands in the US you will see the Tesla market diminish.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m for all good EVs and there is a lot to like about a lot of the Chinese EVs, but in response to your comment, in BYD’s home market — China, the number 1 best-selling car is a Tesla. No doubt Tesla sales will diminish in the near-term if BYD enters the US but Full Self-Driving, Superchargers and the many other things that no other EV maker can compete with will mean Tesla retains the number 1 spot by a large margin.

Tesla ranks 5th overall in China's New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market, holding a 5.3% market share. The market is dominated by BYD in first place with a 22.3% share, followed by Geely Auto, Changan, and emerging domestic competitors like Xiaomi and Leapmotor

You’re comparing car brands I was referring to the best-selling model. BYD produces ~30 models in China. Tesla produces 2. The Model Y is the best-selling car in both China and globally.

Well that's just a silly comparison. It's like saying if Coca Cola only produced Coca Cola it would be the number one soft drink everywhere in the world yet because Pepsi has options it can never be number one.

You misunderstand. You are comparing brands I am comparing models, but the point I made was the gaslighting in the ABC story — pretending like Tesla does not exist. To say that producing 600 cars a day is “staggering” is nonsense. As a comparison, I therefore pointed to Tesla and used the best-selling car in China as an example, but a more relevant comparison would have been to point to the biggest car production factory in China. I should have said that the Tesla Gigafactory in Shanghai produced 851,000 cars last year (almost 4x as many as the “staggering” example in the story, and will probably do >1M in 2026, but you are right to point out BYD which has the 2nd largest factory. Its facility in Zhengzhou produced 545,000 units last year but that’s less than 2/3rds as many cars as Tesla’s gigafactory so I think it was still objectively correct to sight Tesla as an example rather than BYD.

I think most of the Tesla's produced in China are for export markets. Tesla is still losing the game. The US basically has trade barriers on allowing in reasonable competition for Tesla. When looking at Tesla (as a whole, not just a model) they are not world leaders.

I wish Tesla would offer a better seat material option. That's really the only thing I think isn't really up to the standard of the car price. The rest exceeds the expected standard of the price, of course.

During the snowstorm that is sweeping through the U.S. right now, the safest vehicle you can be in is in a Tesla with FSD bc it can react faster than any human or gas car. An electric motors respond in milliseconds. When a wheel starts to slip on snow or ice, Tesla’s sensors detect it up to 1,000 times per second, and the computer instantly cuts or redistributes power to the wheels with grip. On the other hand, gas cars have major delay and don’t have this capability… That means if your Tesla hits a tiny patch of ice, the car corrects it right away, even before you even feel it, almost like the car is thinking ahead. If you don’t believe me listen to the man that built it. Joe: “What happens if you get sideways in the snow? Like, does it correct for that?” Elon: “Yeah. Electric cars have really great traction control because the reaction time is so fast. So, with a gasoline car, you’ve got a lot of latency. It takes a while for the engine to react, but for electric motors, incredibly precise…. But to an electric motor, it’s operating at the millisecond level. So, it can turn on and off traction within, like, inches of getting on… let’s say, you’re driving on a patch of ice, it will turn traction off, and then turn it on a couple inches right after the ice, like a little patch of ice because in the frame of the electric motor, you’re moving incredibly slowly. You’re like a, you’re a snail. You’re just moving so slowly because it can see at a thousand frames a second. And so, it’s like, say ‘one Mississippi’, it just thought about things a thousand times.” Joe: “So, it has realized that your wheels are not getting traction. It understands there’s some slippery surface that you’re driving on.” Elon: “Yes.” Joe: “And it makes adjustments in real-time.” Elon: “Yes, in milliseconds.” Joe: “That would be so much safer than a regular car.” AKA, buy a Tesla if you want to be in the safest car in the world. 💯

ELON ON FSD: MOST PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT’S ABOUT TO HAPPEN “Almost the entire fleet, which will pass 10 million vehicles next year, is capable of full autonomy. So, even without the Cybercab, we still actually have a gigantic fleet that is capable of being autonomous. And the thing about being an autonomous car is that it can be used much more than a car that is not autonomous. A typical passenger vehicle car will be used about 10 hours a week. If you have a car that's a robot car that can drive autonomously, it can now be used potentially for 80, maybe 100 hours a week. So, you could have a car that has 10 times the usefulness of a non-autonomous car, but it still costs the same. In fact, the fleet is already built, so the software update just enables that capability. Overnight you have an increase in usefulness of 10 million cars that suddenly become like 50 million cars or maybe 80 or 100 million cars of usefulness overnight. That's a profound thing. Nothing like that has ever happened before. There is no analogy. There's never been something where a software update increase the value of a gigantic asset base by a factor of like 500 to 1000%. So, it's very difficult for people in the stock market, especially those that look in the rearview mirror, which is most people, to imagine a future where suddenly a 10 million vehicle fleet has 5 to 10 times the usefulness. It's so profound and there's no comparison with anything in the past, so it doesn’t compute. But it will compute in the future.” Source: Tesla All-Hands, March 2025

This is how a CEO loses credibility with me. Cofounder of NuroAI A is making an AI that can drive vehicles, was winning me over through demonstrations of his more flexible AI than Tesla has demonstrated. Drove in left-hand Japan with no prior training on such. Learned by decomposing the road into all of its parts. So figured out that you needed to drive in the left instantly. But then he said LiDAR is demonstrating itself to be safer. So I stuck up my hand and asked for a situation where LiDAR and camera is safer than camera only approaches, which his company sells too. “A child all in black at night, particularly around a corner.” So tonight after I drove my friend home at 2:30 a.m. I studied this in deep detail in my wife’s Model Y with hardware 4 and Tesla Self Driving controlling the car. 1. Cameras can see far more than humans can at night. 2. Modern cars come with matrix headlights. Which go around the turn and illuminate anywhere a car can turn. 3. Every intersection has a light on almost every intersection. Where there is none why would a child in black be playing on the street in the dark. 4. Tesla has a “zoomed in” telephoto camera as one of the cameras under the windshield so it can actually see ahead far better than a human can. Plus the other night this car drove around a clump of dirt and rocks on the road at 50 mph. I didn’t even see it until the car had already quickly turned around it. I give you his speech here. But you gotta come up with better examples of why a car company needs to spend “low thousands” (his quote, not mine) per car more on LiDARs than that.
