Who's getting the money for these things? And also, are they paying bigger fines than the illicit profits they're making in the first place?

selling chicken by the pound when you control the scale is a business model, not a mistake.

Problem is is the fines are not nearly high enough for a company that made over 40 billion with a B. Make those fines end with 3 more zero's it will change.

FINALLY PUT THE GOVERNMENTS OFFICES OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES WHO WILL START FINING THESE CHEATING STORES! The one agency that grocery stores fear is the DEPARTMENT OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES with direct control over stores, and the ability to stop the stores from selling improperly priced, which includes weights, on the spot, without additional actions. While in-store the agents can stop the sale of an item until it is corrected. Have you ever received an item for free in a Safeway, because its price was miss-marked, or it rings up incorrectly? They give it to you to avoid a report to the DEPARTMENT OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES. Safeway took away your incentive to report the violation by giving it to you for less than you would have paid if there were no pricing errors.

A class action lawsuit? This is flat out fraud and it crosses state lines. The federal government needs to fix this and not just with Walmart.

After reading a number of these, I have gone to weighing everything sold by weight at Walmart and even other stores.

That's because the risk is worth the reward. They got this all figured out down to the very cost per ounce. The punishment must be more severe in order to deter this type of predatory behavior

The fact that they pump the chicken with water is bad enough to fake inflate the scale.

Never never EVER buy meat or produce at a Walmart - you are taking your life in your hands. Buy only from the actual butcher department at your local grocery store instead!!!

Food service dude here. I’d like to add an additional layer here. The distributors are also rigging the weights (Sysco, GFS, ect.) when I receive a delivery from them, almost always (80%) of the time the *meat* weight specifically is way off. Invoiced 100lbs, received 84lbs.

Class action lawsuit is the only way to hold them accountable, the government sure as hell won't!

Just saw an article about their sales being down. I wonder if it has anything to do with this and not using honest pricing any longer?🤔

Some lawyers need to make an example out of @Walmart so the rest of the industry can learn not to commit this outrageous fraud.

Back when I ran a wholesale bakery, we assiduously checked for weights bc our customer base did as well. Shorting the customer was considered theft.

They need threats of closure bs a fines. But are attorneys taking the bulk of the funds? Is it just a money laundering scheme like everything else? Rip us off for hundreds of $M a year then pay attorneys to make it seem like they got punished.

One the phrases at poultry processing plants is they sell water not chicken. That’s why they get upset over the price of water. This is facts not a lie. After working in the poultry business I started informing ppl to have the grocery stores repackage and reweigh the meats to help them save money.

Has @Walmart made any statements regarding this? @USDA @USDAFoodSafety @OIGUSDA are you covering this up or are you aware and working behind the scenes. . . BIG FINES ARE IN ORDER?

They pay a few million in fines and make it back in a few days by continuing to short their products. They need to be fined an amount that hurts them so they don't do it again.

Stop buying at Walmart. All their meat packages have that thick silicone pad filled with liquid in the bottom of the package. That along is how they cheat on the weight.

If you think that is bad, take a look at what's in the meats they sell rather than just weighing them.

I like Walmart but the digital dynamic pricing has put me off. They have good gas prices. I wonder when that will change to dynamic as well.

For years Walmart made $300 MILLION sending demand letters to people accused of shoplifting. Many were never convicted. Some were never guilty. One of them refused to pay and a jury gave her $2.1 MILLION. – Lesleigh Nurse was a mother of three from Semmes, Alabama. – In November 2016 she went to her local Walmart with her husband and three children. – She used the self-checkout but the scanner froze. – A Walmart associate came over and helped her through it. She left thinking everything was resolved. – An asset protection manager stopped her outside. She was accused of stealing 11 items including Christmas lights, a loaf of bread and a box of Cap'n Crunch with a total value to about $48. – She was arrested for shoplifting. – A year later the criminal case was dismissed after the Walmart employee failed to appear in court. – One month later a Florida law firm sent her a letter on behalf of Walmart. – Pay $200 or face a civil lawsuit. The demand was even more than the groceries she was accused of stealing. – She refused and in her words “I didn't do anything wrong. Why would I pay for something I didn't do?" – During the trial that followed a law professor testified that in a two year period Walmart had charged 1.4 MILLION people across America with criminal theft and collected $300 MILLION through these demand letters. – Many had never been convicted. Some had never been guilty. – Walmart never produced the self-checkout surveillance footage that would have proved whether she stole anything or not. – "It would have shown the truth and they didn't want the truth to be shown," she said. – A Mobile County jury unanimously awarded her $2.1 MILLION in November 2021. – Walmart filed a motion asking the court to throw out the verdict entirely. Next time your self-checkout scanner freezes at Walmart remember there is a system built to send you a bill whether you are guilty or not. 1.4 million people paid it. She was the one who said no.
