Maybe the greater perceived sense of self ,the wish to be remembered or to make/do something that'll live long after we are gone was what bought us where we are. Get out of the caves, make grand structures, empires,tech etc. Maybe its why we have something instead of nothing.

Stay in the present and add value to the ones around you! If you are able to do that consistently, you hv played your role irrespective of the magnitude of the impact. And don’t take urself too serious, chill madi!
