FLASH: Six additional train sets will be in Lagos very soon to strengthen the capacity of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines to deliver value to commuters and thereby increase the economic viability of the state. The six trains sets, which have scaled the factory acceptance test hurdle, are scheduled for shipment to Lagos from China. The addition of the train sets to the Blue Line rolling stock will increase the number of train trips along the corridor and will be deployed for passenger operation to Okokomaiko when phase two of the Blue Line is completed. #WATCH | Mumbai: Regarding his meeting with MNS leaders, Dr Swapnil Dhanraj Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway, says, Today at Central Railway, a meeting was held with MNS representatives. During the meeting, the railway presented three main factual points. First, regarding the shifting of the Dadar-Ratnagiri train: the train was moved from Dadar to Ratnagiri in 2021. When train operations resumed post-COVID-19, the train was shifted to Diva from Dadar, and they were also told about the operational reasons, which include that, when this train crosses Diva station, it accesses the 5th and 6th lines, which coincides with the evening peak of suburban services. The train requires approximately 11–12 minutes to pass through the crossover, which significantly impacts the punctuality of suburban trains on both sides. This bottleneck at the Divagate was a major factor affecting punctuality in the Mumbai Division. Consequently, a cautious decision was made in 2021 to run the service from Diva to Ratnagiri instead of Daradar." He adds, "Information was also provided regarding the Dadar-Gorakhpur train. Previously, this train operated from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT). When LTT was converted into an LHB-based coaching depot, the service was shifted to Dadar. To accommodate this at Dadar, the number of coaches had to be reduced from 22 to 17... There have been no other changes to its operation, frequency, or stoppages; the only difference is that the train, which previously ran 'on demand,' has now been made a regular service. Additionally, it was shared that last week, 14 trains were regularised, 7 of which serve various cities in Maharashtra. Over the last 3–4 years, no trains have been cancelled in this region. Furthermore, several services to Madgaon have been introduced or improved: a regular service from CSMT to Madgaon started on June 28, 2023; a bi-weekly special from Bandra Terminus was introduced in 2024; and the frequency of the LTT-Madgaon train was increased from weekly to 4 times a week in November 2022. Currently, 21 trains run daily to the Konkan region from Mumbai, and another 25 trains pass from other stations... Many people often question why only Gujarat is getting a bullet train and not the rest of India. Let’s take a moment to understand the broader perspective: • Mumbai–Ahmedabad is the first High-Speed Rail (HSR) corridor, but definitely not the only one planned. • It’s one of the busiest rail and air routes in the country, with an average of 80 flights daily in both directions. • The region has a higher per capita income, making it more viable for such large-scale infrastructure. • Despite already having 2 Vande Bharat trains, 1 Shatabdi, 1 Tejas, 1 Double Decker, and several other dedicated trains, demand still exceeds capacity. Importantly, this corridor is just the beginning,the line will be extended to New Delhi, another major air corridor. Future plans also include extending the HSR to Howrah via Varanasi and Patna, connecting several key cities in Bihar. I have some great news for people of Bengaluru and Mumbai. From last 30 years, our two great cities were connected by only one super fast train -Udyan Express. Even that train took more than 24 hrs to reach. This forced most people to inevitably take bus or flights. Travel was expensive and uncomfortable. There was consistent demand from people of both the cities to start more train services. I had raised this issue multiple times in Parliament, PAC meetings, with Railway Board Chairman and with the Railway Minister, over the last four years. It is just baffling that such important economic nodes as Bengaluru and Mumbai didn’t have more than one direct super fast train from so long. Finally, like he is delivering on many important promises for the nation, our most dynamic and erudite Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnav Ji has made more super fast trains possible by increasing lane capacity in both Bengaluru and Mumbai Railway stations. I also thank our own Sri V. Somanna Ji for all his support. In the coming days, rail travel between the two cities will increase and will benefit lakhs of people. Non-AC door closing EMU local train that arrived at Kurla carshed in Mumbai. Here are the key differences: *The coach is built on an AC EMU shell, but maintaining the various classes of first class (with cushion seats), ladies, the disabled one and others. Hence though vestibular, it has physical partitions to segregate these coaches. *The windows are wider 1,900m with sliding glass panels like buses as compared to 900m windows in existing trains. *The blowers are powerful forcing 10,000 cubic m/hr air into the coach, with two such units in every coach which means 20,000 cubic m/hr air in each coach. *The leg space between the two seats has been increased for a comfortable seating and wider gangway. *The luggage compartment at either end of the train is two times larger than the existing ones. *The doors have been shut and along with glass panels on the top, to improve air circulation, these coaches feature louvered doors (slatted) that allow air movement while keeping doors closed for safety.
