Variation in lab diamond prices according to retailer

De Beers literally invented the idea that diamonds are rare and forever, turns out they're neither.

Yes, the De Beers Group of Companies is a diamond cartel that had complete control of the diamond market for most of the 20th century. They still control a sizable portion of the market and their effort at marketing (particularly with the slogan "A Diamond is Forever") has done much to inflate the market for diamonds in our society.

De Beers basically ran the greatest long con in luxury history

They stole 😔 them at the cost of many lives in Africa 🌍 😒

Diamonds are pricey because they combine rarity, extraction difficulty, and perception 💎⛏️ Deep-Earth formation, labor-intensive mining, controlled supply, and marketing as symbols of love and luxury all make them far more valuable than their material alone.

calling a diamond a “common rock” really misses the full story. diamonds have been valued across cultures for centuries, with historic evidence of their significance showing up everywhere, they’re not valuable just because of modern marketing.

woah thanks for sharing i didn't knew about it

Watch blood diamond 💎

Cause diamond is one of the rearest elements on the earth

Its should be used in massive activities

@AwusiOphelia

Ive been telling people this for years not only that they can make lab made diamonds from ash

Because De Beers literally has warehouses full of them and will only release a few creating a false "demand" plus a massive advertising campaign spanning decades. In reality, diamonds are abundant across the globe.

Diamonds are pricey due to rarity, mining costs, controlled supply, and strong marketing. 💎

@grok is this true?

@grok is this true ? What about gold ?

I will never wear one. A Tanzanite is a 1000 times rarer and far less expensive.

In the search of GOLD We LOST diamonds.....

#Monopolies

Diamonds are actually pretty common in the earth’s crust.

I dont need a rock to prove my loyalty to my soulmate or a contract… if i love you we dont need the government involved in our lives…

Because rarity is marketed, not natural. Controlled supply + emotional advertising = high price. The sparkle is real, the scarcity is engineered.

@sciencegirl have you seen the movie Blood Diamond ?!

It sells stories, typically love story = unlimited price.

Stop using AI please. It doesn't even look good

Africa is less fond of glass beads then it was some years ago. The same will happen to diamond lovers. Sorry for all who will possess one when diamonds share the fate of the beads.

While I get that lab grown diamonds are basically identical, I’m still not sure i would want to buy one. Old habits die hard I guess

Political and financial reason the company which owns them I can’t recall the name. I guess it’s something they have them in briefcases moving them around 24 hours a day from Air ports - locations to locations so they cannot be declared in the market trolling the volumes , so they can keep the price high, not to mention that they pay animal wages to the minors who put their lives to do the job.

How true is this @grok and what is the company’s name, who manages it, owns it ans operates it?

Amazing piece of art!

Thanks, but I already knew that.
