Every dev knows unit tests are important ... and every dev has a project missing them. 😅 With GitHub Copilot CLI, you can quickly generate a robust test suite right from the terminal: 1️⃣ Enter plan mode (Shift-Tab) 2️⃣ Launch a fleet of agents on autopilot 3️⃣ Monitor progress...

The real gap isn't generating tests, it's that generated tests test the wrong thing. They test your implementation, not your intent. A fleet of agents writing tests for broken logic just gives you confident green checks on broken code. What's your quality bar for "robust"?

This is actually super useful. Generating tests from the terminal like this saves a ton of time 👏

This is where a lot of projects quietly break. Shipping is loud. Missing test coverage is usually silent until production reminds you.

we all know tests matter. we all skip them anyway. the difference is now you can feel bad about it while an AI writes them for you.

Plan mode kills the 'I’ll add tests later' lie. Using Claude 4.6 agents to map architecture and fill coverage gaps from the CLI is pure therapy for legacy projects.

How good are the generated tests for edge cases and mocks? Does it handle integration tests too?

I am a chip design architect. I would like to know if it is possible to perform unit testing on a mobile device for this project:

Nice, that could finally get my missing tests written without the usual hassle.

Finally a way to tackle that test guilt without the weekend grind. Love the terminal flow.

Unit test gaps hit differently in payment systems. When coverage is low and a settlement batch runs overnight, you find edge cases the hard way. Targeted generation for the riskiest code paths is exactly the right starting point. Not all test debt is equal.

the real unlock isnt writing tests. its removing the excuse not to. copilot just killed the "i'll add tests later" loop

I keep wondering how effective these generated test suites are in practice. If they're not catching edge cases, is the time saved worth it?

The real value here is not just generating tests but generating them with context about your actual codebase. Most AI test generation produces shallow assertions. Having it explore the project first and then build coverage around real logic paths is a meaningful shift in how teams can close testing gaps on legacy code.

Used this workflow with Make and Claude API to generate tests for our automation templates. Cut testing time from days to hours. Question: how does Copilot CLI handle the Latin American dev workflow where internet reliability varies?
