Every so often I see a post from someone that didn't find an eclipse an incredible experience. They didn't seem to get the hype. The sun turned into a black ball with glowing plasma shooting off of it. If that doesn't get you to feel something, nothing will 😆

If you are one of the many that finds eclipses as beautiful as I do, consider picking up my print of the latest. I call it "Shadows on the Balearic Sea" as it was captured on the Mediterranean just North of Ibiza. This is a single photo captured just as totality struck.

To me, totality was a powerful reminder that in the universal plane, we are nothing: our pursuits, our problems, our greed. They are all meaningless. Totality is a highly improbable event, a gift from the universe to us. So are life, a habitable planet, and the ability to experience and effect them. We are temporarily here, but the planet is forever. Let's respect it and protect it: we have no spare one. (potato quality from my phone and, yes, the sobs are me crying)

We journeyed to see the total eclipse in 2017 & it was worth every second of the excruciating traffic jam afterward. I only expected it to be “cool” but instead it was one of my peak life experiences. Staring into the huge black pupil of that blazing eye was like looking into the eye of God. I was transfixed in a way I can’t even describe. 10/10 - EVERYONE should try to see a total eclipse someday!!

Seeing totality in person is completely breathtaking. Indescribable. No video will ever capture what it’s like in person. Should be on everyone’s bucket list.

I could imagine someone not getting it who has never experienced a total solar eclipse. I cannot imagine anyone experiencing one and not being impressed. It's the most incredible natural phenomenon I've ever experienced, and I've been blessed to experience two of them.

amazing clip!! Btw, in some cultures, especially Hinduism, seeing an eclipse is deemed inauspicious. It is believed that it brings bad luck. Pregnant ladies are specifically asked to stay indoors to avoid detrimental effect of eclipse on the foetus. These are cultural views, not mine.

You’d have to chain me to the wall to keep me from going outside during a total eclipse

Yea, lack of understanding and imagination. Those kinds of people would think 4th July fireworks are more interesting. I hold with this guy:

And to think people say this painting wasn't realistic. It's close, especially for something started days after the event!

When I was in a totality it was like a religious experience. The entire world went silent for those seconds. I still get shivers.

Hey Andrew, experiencing an eclipse is a remarkable thing! Check out this adventure I had when the eclipse was set to travel directly over the Grand Teton Mountains... I flew there in my bush plane to film it happening in real-time... this is the result:

Best shot I ever have gotten, during the 2023 eclipse in NM. Taken with my DJI Air3 drone.

It’s my theory none of them have ever seen a TOTAL solar eclipse… And I will continue to believe that even if I’m proven wrong.

Amazing is what it is, not sure how you cannot be moved by this. I have seen the last two in the US.

I kept hearing they were existential experiences. I thought, "Okay, I'm sure they are pretty cool." Then totality came right over my house on April 8, 2024. And I was overwhelmed with emotion. Every hyperbole you hear about them.... is true.

That my friend is a fire timelapse, never seen anyone capture it wide enough to catch the full swath of totality in a single shot. Understandably, everyone is always punched in tight. Bravo.

We have seen two and they were both so awe inspiring. Before and after - we were changed to have witnessed them. Diamond ring, shadow snakes, 360 degree sunset. I could go on for an hour. I pity anyone who isn’t moved by such an experience!

But there was, effectively, no eclipse of any note across the UK. It went slightly darker for a few minutes. No mad birdsong, no drop in temperature, no black ball, no glowing plasma. 1999 was just as big an anticlimax.

The uk didn’t experience totality.

Many here in the UK sadly moaning about the eclipse, but they didn't have glasses/were badly misled by very inaccurate social media posts showing total eclipses, not partial. It also didn't help some people declaring partial eclipses are not worth watching, they now believe that.

@AsteroidEnergy I wonder whether the “capacity to be inspired by nature” is not a universal human tendency. There are some people, sadly, who seem incapable of experiencing awe and wonder.

I love your video because it shows that -the day does NOT turns into night- as we hear everywhere when they want to describe a total solar eclipse. It gets dark, but if seeing from an open field, you can see the edge of the shadow of the Moon. Some stars do pop out but the sky has a completely different glow than that from a midnight sky. It so unreal that you feel its a dream. Plus the corona is something so difficult to describe because there’s nothing like that to compare.

@AsteroidEnergy There is something seriously wrong with such persons. Lack of an inner soul. Sign of psychopathy, if you ask me.

Well I went to partial eclipses in NYC and Long Island. Nothing like a total one, but even a partial one there is this eerie darkness that is chilling.

The one that I saw as a kid was spooky: birds frantically panicked, the air temperature dropped, and winds abruptly came out of nowhere.

People who don't get hype haven't actually seen a total eclipse. They think the difference between 99% totality and 100% totality is 1%, when it's actually an enormous difference - TOTALITY matters!

I've been fortunate to witness two totalities but I think seeing it happen at sunset would be a whole next level.

Personally, I am awestruck by the fact the moon is JUST the right size and JUST the right distance away from the sun and the Earth to cover the sun in that exact way. What are the odds of that?! Obviously, the visual is breathtaking too.
