Under and through 100%. Not so sure about behind. Many of the best shooters start with shooting hand on outside of ball and get to 90 from there. More natural and less of a forced movement imo.

I really like this, Steve. You can get “behind” the basketball off the catch. So, as a pass is coming towards you get your shooting hand and arm in a position to “block”the pass ie wrist bent 90, finger tips pointed to the ceiling. Kinda like the Supremes!

KEEP OFF SEASON DEVELOPMENT SIMPLE Heading in to the off season soon, we’ll see a lot of players try to get better at everything and make their development more complex than it had to be. So much of development can be solved by focusing on shooting and playing. Within the playing focusing on ball handling (getting 2 feet in the paint), finishing, decisions and reads, guarding on ball and off ball. If you play with purpose and get your shooting reps up before or after you’ll put yourself in a great spot during the off season.

QUICK RELEASE IN WORKOUTS One of the reasons players can’t translate shooting success I. Workouts to shooting success in games is because their preparation and release in training isn’t as fast as it is in games. You’ll see great shooters like Steph push themselves to prepare quickly and then release the ball with pace, just like they would do in games. I like to use the Spalding TF DNA ball bc it monitors release time so players can’t question when I tell them to ‘get off the ball quicker’ 🙌🙌🙌

Minnesota 6’7 Wing Cade Tyson has been one of the most impressive players in college basketball so far this season. Through his first five games Tyson is averaging 23/4/1 while shooting 53% from the field and 39% from three on 6 attempts a game. Tyson has been one of the most polished and consistent scorers this season with his ability to effectively score with and without the ball. Introducing the “Get” action in basketball to lacrosse! The “Get” is a 2man action where a player passes the ball to another player and sprints to go “Get” it back on a handoff. This action has similar concepts and reads to pick and roll, but the picker is actually the ball handler! In lacrosse, we have been experimenting with Gets because it creates so many interesting situations and reads for the players. The way we teach it in small sided games is to have one offensive player declare “I’m shut” and the defense has to face-guard him. From there we pick for the shut off player trying to spring them free for the Get. The ball handler has to engage and control their defender, anticipating the shut player trying to get open. The shut player can backdoor if being overplayed towards the get (rejecting the get), receive a flip, or continue curling around the ball getting open for a late pass. The ball handler can feed the reject, flip the ball, or fake the flip to attack the goal or make a late pass to the shut payer curling to the goal. I’ve seen examples of this run in men’s and women’s DI lacrosse at Ohio State and Northwestern, respectively and I’ve run this myself when I was coaching HS girls lacrosse. You will also see on this reel a sick application for Gets vs. a common big-little invert coverage where the short stick doesn’t go behind with his man and plays “Safety” in front of the net. Gets are fun for the players, are incredible for teaching your players 2man game on and off ball, dealing with double teams, and creativity with passing, and can be used to score goals. Blount as a true Sophomore is averaging 22/9/4 on 49/43/88 splits against some of the best competition in D2 basketball. Blount’s mix of shooting, finishing, passing, instincts, and off ball ability makes him an extremely valuable player who can impact the game with and without the ball. Blount is one of the best shooters in D2 who’s shooting 43% on 7 attempts a game and his quick jumper and ability to shoot contested makes him a strong shooting threat, he’s also skilled from the mid range and at the rim and is one of the best cutters and drivers in division 2. 4 DAY SHOOTING RESET: Day 1 This 4 day reset aims to help players slow down and reinforce their shot. It’s really helpful for Great Shooters that love to be detailed, but also if you aren’t a great shooter to help you build your foundation. Day 1 is about finding our stance (load position) and feeling the sequencing of our shot. The Load Position is the foundation of our shot. A players understanding and feel for their stance is HUGE. Drill 1: Load Position Shooting - Find your stance and start in Load Position, take a breath, lift and shoot with normal pace. We look for straight lift and high follow through on this. Drill 2: 1 Foot Drops - this works on finding our base on the drop, and timing in to lift / shot. Drill 3: 1 Foot Drops w/ Dribble- Add in dribble to work on finding base, ball transfer to shooting hand, timing for shooting off the dribble. SCORING: ONLY COUNT CLEAN MAKES (Swish or hit rim once). For each drill, make 10 from 15’ and 10 from 3. Change Distance and Angle for each shot for variability.
