Units of the Somali National Armed Forces, led by Gen. Jimcaale and deployed from the city of Garowe, have arrived in Laascaanood. The units will take part in maintaining overall security and in preparations for the official reception of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and Commander-in-Chief of the Somali Armed Forces, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, who are expected to arrive in Laascaanood. I uncovered a February 2025 video from Liberal MP Yvan Baker, MP 🇨🇦🇺🇦, who introduced a private member's bill to make July Somalia Heritage Month. He says he has "the privilege of representing one of the largest Somali communities in Canada and one of the largest communities outside Somalia." He also says that he is "ensuring that the Government of Canada does all it can to support the people of Somalia." Baker made this video for the "Restore Somalia Foundation," an organization based in Canada that operates in Somalia.
