what a true statement and relevant facts about my people. Unfortunately professor Samatar and other academics and intellectuals like him have not been given a chance to play any role in our nation and yet we desperately need their contributions

I'm afraid I have to disagree with the Professor on extracting the two prominent groups out of Somali politics. During hard days of colocalization and the rise of Somali Nationalism, poets & religious philosophers were the one's vanguard and sensitized the nation to seek freedom.

Nationalism based solely on Somali as its core identitity has clearly failed. No amount of clerics or cultural figures can revive it. Mr Prof. Somalia as nation state is clearly not what majority of populace want. Face reality!!! All should go their separate ways

Why don’t seculars accept only Islam in all its forms, both political and spiritual, is the answer not only for Somalis who have been in a state of chaos for centuries, but all humanity. Mankind can only unite and achieve success in both worlds by submitting to the will of Allah

Someone needs to stop this idiot from linking Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s corruption to the campaign targeting Somalis in Minneapolis. This man is so unhinged that he literally wrote a thank-you message to Trump for targeting Somalis as an entire community in Minnesota. There is not a single piece of evidence that the group involved in the Minnesota fraud case had any connection to the Somali government. These were ordinary individuals, and part of the money was used to purchase assets inside the United States and abroad in places such as Kenya. The U.S. government even recovered part of these funds in cooperation with the Kenyan government. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud does not need money stolen from the U.S. government. He already profits from looting public lands in Somalia, benefiting from projects run by international organizations in the country, auctioning off a large number of Somali embassy properties abroad, and signing exploitative oil and resource contracts that are harmful to Somalia but personally profitable for him. Dr. Abib himself was one of the people who voted to install the current Somali president, widely seen as one of the most corrupt leaders Somalia has ever had, if not one of the most corrupt in Africa. So he should stop the hypocrisy. He helped create the disaster unfolding in Somalia and now pretends to be exposing corruption. This idiot needs to stop spreading false information on Zionist platforms that manufacture narratives to push their agenda in Somalia.

This is Major General Dahir Aden Indha Qarshe, a distinguished Somalian military leader and former Chief of the Somalia Army, in this clip he shared a poignant reflection on the role of Somaliland in the 1977 war between Somalia and Ethiopia. In 1977 war between Somalia and Ethiopia General Elmi led an armored Somali National Army (SNA) battalions in the Qabri Dahare Front. In his account, General Qarshe emphasizes the critical and sacrificial role played by the people of Somaliland during this conflict. During the war, the proximity of Somaliland to the frontlines meant that the region bore the brunt of the conflict's devastation. The hospitals in Hargeisa were inundated with casualties, and the local population went to extraordinary lengths to assist the injured. General Qarshe recounts how Somalilanders, driven by a profound sense of Somali nationalism, not only provided medical care but also opened their homes to the wounded soldiers. He observed that the people of Somaliland demonstrated an unparalleled dedication to the cause of Somali unity, going so far as to sell their properties and livestock to support the war effort. He recalls that the civilians' cars were even repurposed for military use. In his emotional reflection, General Qarshe recalls a visit to a hospital in Hargeisa where he was moved to tears by the sight of how the injured soldiers were treated with more care and compassion than they had ever experienced in their own regions. This, he notes, was a testament to the genuine patriotism and sacrifice of the Somaliland people. Tragically, despite their immense sacrifice, the people of Somaliland faced horrific repercussions after the war's conclusion. Following the defeat of Somalia, the Somalilanders were subjected to brutal repression and violence. The very soldiers they had cared for and treated, as well as the airplanes used for the war effort, turned against them. The ensuing genocide led to the loss of over a quarter of a million Somaliland lives, illustrating the depth of animosity harbored by the Somali government towards Somaliland. Today, the people of Somaliland have learned from their harrowing experiences. They have become wary of deceptive appeals to "Somalism" and patriotic fervor that once led to their suffering. The lessons of the past have strengthened their resolve to protect their own interests and maintain their independence, ensuring that they are no longer deceived by false promises of unity and patriotism. That’s why the people of Somaliland decided to reclaim their independence and today proudly have their own nation, The Republic of Somaliland—a nation that wants nothing to do with Somalia. We have resolved never to share anything with Somalia again; we have learned our lesson well. This is not a time for partisan politics. It's a moment for collective resolve to ensure justice for those who lost their lives and for their grieving families by bringing the perpetrators to justice. Among the list of victims were: Shri Manjunath from Chikmagalur. Shri Bharat Bhushan from Bengaluru. I spoke to both the wives of the deceased, Pallavi and Sujata, this morning. They are at present safe, but they are worried about the future. I spoke to the KPCC, and the Cabinet has deputed Labour Minister Santosh Lad. He said that he met two members of the family and their children. He also met nearly 200 tourists from Karnataka there in various hotels and arranged flights to return to Bangalore. I have also requested J&K CM Umar Abdullah to make arrangements for those who are not in touch with their respective states. Yesterday night, I spoke to our Home Minister; he promised me that he will take care of all those people. I offer my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and their loved ones in the tragic incident. The summer season has started, and tourists have started visiting the region. Tourism is also the biggest source of income for Jammu and Kashmir. They are dependent on that income. But due to this attack, Shri Omar Abdullah has told me that this year the economy has collapsed. The Government of India is ruling there, as it's a Union Territory, still not declared as a state. So the response would be from the Government of India. In this moment, we are all one with the government. Together we have to fight. Whosoever we are fighting against—whether it is terrorists or other agencies—we will be one together to protect the country and its unity and integrity. : Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us this evening to pay their respects to the late former President of Somaliland, His Excellency Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Silanyo“ who passed away last Friday in Hargeisa. His legacy of over 60 years in public service is deeply intertwined with the history of the Somali state, from the democratic and dictatorship eras to the post-conflict era. His trials and tribulations are living examples of the Somali people's grappling and experimentation with the very idea of statehood, nation-building, and politics. His commitment to governance and development is evident in the diverse and impactful positions he held throughout his illustrious career. As a minister between 1965 and 1982, he played a pivotal role in shaping Somalia’s policies and strategies significantly contributing to the nascent Somali state’s efforts to improve the conditions of its citizens. Navigating the contours of the post-colonial African state, he found himself fluctuating between being in the government and leading the Somali National Movement, opposing the military dictatorship for six years between 1984 and 1990. In Somaliland, before becoming a president, he played a constructive role as the leader of the largest opposition party. As a President of Somaliland, Silanyo spearheaded transformative initiatives, including significant infrastructure projects such as developing the Berbera Port and the Burao-Erigavo corridor. His leadership left an indelible mark on Somaliland’s progress and stability. One of his most memorable legacies, however, is his exemplary acceptance of the results of the 2003 Somaliland presidential election; he gracefully conceded to incumbent President Dahir Rayale Kahin, who won by a margin of just 80 votes—a testament to his respect for democracy and commitment to peace. I am sure the historic decision he made that day has and will continue to shape Somaliland’s political culture and democratic practices, including the last one taken by the outgoing President Muse Bihi. Finally, as one of the last towering figures of Somali politics, he will be remembered for his bold decision to engage in talks with the Federal Government of Somalia in 2012, which ought to inspire and set a precedence for the continuation of this dialogue that could potentially culminate into the attainment of unity. May Allah (SWT) bless his soul. Once again, my condolences to his family, the people of Somaliland, and the Somali people at large.

This issue has been festering for years. It traces back to the early 1990s, when Mahathir Mohamad began mainstreaming political Islam into the system. He used it to challenge PAS, lost the game and now a permanent part of the nation's body politic. Moral policing is the most visible expression of political Islam in practice: using the power of the state and peer pressure to enforce Islamic norms, in this case dress codes, so that Muslims (and, indirectly, non-Muslims) are compelled to live according to "Islamic standards" in public spaces. For Muslims, religion is no longer the private space. The people viciously attacking Bella online are often the same individuals who privately consume large amounts of porn, especially Asian and Indonesian porn. In public, they project an image of pious, devout Muslims, hoping others will look up to them and to conform to what the state wants. In private, their behaviour is the complete opposite. This is classic identity politics enabled and encouraged by the political environment the state has created. They assert their Islamic identity by publicly shaming others, while living with little regard for the moral standards they demand from everyone else. I agree with Harith that this behaviour is unacceptable. Unfortunately, it will not stop and it is likely to get worse. As long as Muslim politicians and religious leaders continue to weaponise identity politics with Islam at its core, these public displays of outrage will intensify. The ultimate irony, of course, is that corruption and watching porn are quietly tolerated, as long as one isn’t caught. That is the hypocrisy at the heart of this brand of identity politics. #MoralPolicing #Malaysia #IdentityPolitics #PoliticalIslam
