Something I learned from my Jewish college roommate ~ 1980. In every food category, there’s always at least 1 Safe or Kosher option for Jews. There are symbols to identify these on the packaging. This is taught to all young Jews. Some Examples:

CFA used to sell cheesecake that was from Cheesecake Factory and was precut to hold 60 slices. Shoney’s used to use all breakfast foods that they sell at Walmart & the lunch came from cans. Only the whipped cream was made in back. Their apple pies were Edward’s deep dish.

I’ve been saying this for years. Doesn’t matter where you eat, they all serve Sysco slop. There’s a few rare exceptions. I saw this starting in a kitchen in the 80’s. When I started they made all their soups by scratch. All Sysco by the time I quit 2 years later.

I was shocked by the color of my egg in Japan. It had such a rich colour and taste and a lot of Japanese eat raw on rice. It was a real egg like we got in America in the 1950’s. We have forgotten what real food looks and tastes like. Slop for Americans.

My sons want me to open a little dinner but I would insist on real homemade. I know there is no way I could make a profit because the cost even in bulk for truly homemade from scratch is just so expensive. In my area no one could ever afford it for a meal out.

That’s a given tho. They have to get products from somewhere, and it’s usually the same 3-4 places. The cake thing isn’t at all restaurants bc many do make their own desserts. But some places outsource theirs just to give customers an extra option to the main menu.
