I'm saddened to learn of the untimely passing of the Chairperson of the KNCHR, Roseline Odhiambo Odede. I had the privilege of serving with her both at FIDA-Kenya and in the Law Society of Kenya Council. In all our engagements, she was a level-headed, accommodative, and collaborative partner who always prioritised service to the people and the greater good. Roseline's tenure in charge of the KNCHR was characterised by exemplary fortitude and commitment to the rule of law and human rights. She steered the Commission through a difficult human rights context in Kenya but maintained unfettered dedication to standing up firmly against impunity, government excesses, and poor governance. Her death is a big loss for the country and the community of human rights defenders. We convey our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. May her soul rest in eternal peace!

Comparing Kenya to Tanzania is like comparing Kenya of 1982–1992, when our great leaders who fought for democracy were being mistreated, to what is happening in Tanzania today. The way you are handling Tundu Lissu reflects that same era—he has been arrested and remains in jail to date. Kenya has moved forward. It feels as though Tanzania is where Kenya was 40 years ago in terms of democracy. Here in Kenya, we have freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and an independent judiciary. While it may sometimes face intimidation, the existing structures still allow justice to prevail in the long run. We also have an active Law Society and strong civil society organizations that continue to advocate for democracy and accountability. We have come a long way. So, Mama Samia, please keep your advice to yourself. Remember, even both a former president and a sitting president have faced the ICC. In Kenya, the Constitution is supreme, and it must be respected.

My mom passed peacefully at 1:11pm two days ago, surrounded by her three little birds, my sister, my brother, and me, holding her hand and stroking her head as we sang to her. The song Three Little Birds came on at just the right moment, like it was meant for her. And it was. She took her final breaths wrapped in our love, with music, light, and presence guiding her home. She was the brightest soul I’ve ever known. A radiant artist. A lover of dance, beauty, color, and connection. She saw magic in people, even those she’d never met, and bridged the gap between hearts without hesitation. She made everyone feel seen. She brought joy everywhere she went. She taught me how to notice life, how to play, how to trust the light within me. If you’ve ever been touched by my love or joy, it was seeded by her. After she passed, we stayed with her. We thanked her spirit, and we thanked her body for holding so much love, for creating us, for doing its job beautifully despite everything. And as we left the room, we did what she would have loved most: we clapped and cheered for her. Because she deserved a standing ovation. I told her I’d see her in every rainbow. In every 11:11. In laughter. In applause. In astronauts. Even if she’d lived 30 more years, it wouldn’t have been enough. Two hundred wouldn’t have been enough. Infinity wouldn’t have been enough. That’s how special she is. I’m so grateful I got to walk this life so closely beside her. I love you, Mom. Always. Her light doesn’t end with her physical passing. This is one of my favorite player development stories of all time…. Sophie is one of the best players to come out of the Albany area, especially in the last handful of years. She was an unbelievable shooter in HS, signed to play for URI in the A-10. Before her Freshman year she developed a ‘wiggle’ in her elbow on her shot. It was tough for her to reach from the HS 3 pt line. I remember being nervous that if she couldn’t fix it, it would be hard for her to get on the court. She didn’t play much that whole year and during winter break, when she got home, we locked in and figured out a series of drills that would help her limit the wiggle and generate power on her shot. In this video are a couple of the drills, you can see how the elbow stabilized in just a couple days. The best part is that she was able to then go back to school, continue what we worked on, and improve it by shortening the dip and transfer that success to games. She went on to shoot over 40% from three that year, and broke the career 3 point record at URI. I’m really proud of how she took ownership of her development and achieved success!!

Why is real-estate so unscrupulously priced in Kenya? Because of cartels. Other areas have been denied development funding deliberately, and all good roads and security concentrated in zones where cannibalistic developers have targeted.
