As someone who experienced threats and harassment from armed extremists for over a decade, I have empathy for anyone who feels afraid of retaliation for free speech. But at the end of the day, we all must make a choice: back down or double down. GOP Alaska Sen Lisa Murkowski could switch parties. She could oppose every nominee. She could use her status in the majority party to hold Donald Trump accountable. Instead, during Trump’s first term, Sen Murkowski voted with Trump 73% of the time. This term, Sen Murkowski has voted for 20 of Trump’s cabinet nominees. There are people with far less privilege and power than Sen Murkowski who have stood up to Trump. If any lawmaker is too afraid to use their voice, they should step aside and give their seat to someone who isn’t.

They already have. 50 senators are on the record for the House-passed bill, and Susan Collins is one of them. Senator Murkowski said there was not enough time to implement it before this election. At this point, there isn't. That removes one of her objections. Republicans should not give up on it. Your senator is home right now. Ask what it would take to get to yes.
