Youths Burn Down the House of a Kidnapper Who Killed His Own Brother in Imo State after collecting Ransom Mgbidi, Oru West LGA, Imo State – Angry youths have vandalised and set ablaze the house of Odidika Okwuegbulem, a notorious suspected kidnap kingpin, after he allegedly orchestrated the abduction and murder of his own brother. According to police reports, Odidika kidnapped Ikemefula (also known as Engr. Ikem), a promising automobile engineer from the same Mgbidi community. The family paid a ₦7 million ransom plus a Highlander SUV, but the suspect still killed the victim and buried him in a shallow grave in the Otulu forest area. Odidika was arrested alongside gang members by operatives of the Imo State Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit (Tiger Base). He reportedly confessed to the crime.

This past Friday, I delivered brief remarks at the 5th Transatlantic Summit organised by the Political Network for Values at the UN Headquarters in New York. I used the opportunity to state the Ghanaian and African view on family, marriage, the education of children and the true principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I stated without equivocation the letter and spirit of the UDHR and several other international conventions and reiterated the need for the UN to uphold true human rights and not these pseudo rights that are being smuggled in and imposed on us. It is imperative at this moment that the Parliament of Ghana proceeds with alacrity to pass the Bill before it to protect the institution of family as the basic unit of society, marriage as a union between a natural born man and woman of full age and the sole perogative of parents to determine the education of their children. For God, Country and Africa. 🦁🇬🇭

The event brought together ambassadors, diplomats, and official representatives from 57 countries to discuss the protection of civil society within the OSCE region, the work of human rights defenders, the protection of freedom of peaceful assembly, and the current challenges in these areas. Ahmad Shahidov, head of the Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights and a human rights defender, delivered a speech during the panel discussion. In his address, Shahidov highlighted increasing pressure on human rights defenders by India in South Asia, mass human rights violations in the Kashmir region, war crimes trials underway in Baku, and the growing nuclear threat in the region, warning that such escalation poses a direct risk to European and global security. At the start of his remarks, Shahidov responded to a statement made by an Armenian colleague, stressing that human rights issues should not be politicized or manipulated. He stated that the Armenian nationals currently on trial in Baku are being prosecuted for committing war crimes and financing terrorism. Shahidov emphasized that he personally attended those court hearings, where Araik Harutyunyan, Ruben Vardanyan, and others made confessions confirming their crimes. He invited international colleagues to attend these trials and see the facts for themselves. Our peaceful struggle for justice and human rights has been met with increased brutality.
