Michael Shellenberger knows nothing about cold fusion. There was 60 successful replications showing anomalous energy and/or transmutation. Research never stopped, they just rebranded to LENR. One of the top physicists on LENR is George Miley, who has been writing papers about using high powered lasers to initiate aneutronic fusion in field reversed configurations. The lines are dark because it's the exhaust from these reactors is xrays beyond the thermal spectrum. The reactors are small, consistent with a high beta concept with a radius of a couple meters.
