The ICE officer confronted him, after which the suspect aimed the rifle at the officer and refused to drop it. The officer fired, and the suspect fired back multiple times. The officer returned to his apartment to don body armor and called police. When LAPD arrived, they found the suspect deceased. The ICE officer was not injured or arrested. Shasta Police Department and Weed Police Department released body cam footage showing the incident that happened on March 21, 2026, during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near the north Weed off-ramp. An officer pulled over a car traveling northbound at the north Weed off-ramp for multiple violations, including excessive window tint and an unsafe lane change. The officer called for help with a K-9 drug sniff, and a Mt. Shasta police officer responded to assist. During the search, the Weed officer found a large amount of suspected methamphetamine hidden in a stereo speaker box. As the officer approached the man, who was sitting in front of the patrol car, the man pulled out a gun from his waist and pointed it at the officer. The officer then shot the man.
