Walking is a low-impact, weight-bearing exercise that offers numerous health benefits. It improves cardiovascular and pulmonary fitness (Better Health Channel). It reduces the risk of heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and joint issues (Mayo Clinic, University Hospitals). Studies cited in the web results (e.g., University Hospitals) show that 7,000 or more steps a day can lower the risk of premature death by 50-70%, and even modest amounts of walking are beneficial for overall health. Walking also boosts mental health, reducing anxiety and depression, and improving mood and self-esteem (Healthline). The CDC and other health organizations recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per week, and walking can absolutely contribute to this goal (Healthline, University Hospitals).
