It reduces the risk of heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and joint issues (Mayo Clinic, University Hospitals). Studies cited in the web results (e.g., University Hospitals) show that 7,000 or more steps a day can lower the risk of premature death by 50-70%, and even modest amounts of walking are beneficial for overall health. Walking also boosts mental health, reducing anxiety and depression, and improving mood and self-esteem (Healthline). The CDC and other health organizations recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per week, and walking can absolutely contribute to this goal (Healthline, University Hospitals).
