Did you know the original The Legend of Zelda was first released on the Famicom Disk System, not NES? Because it came on a floppy disk format, it allowed players to SAVE their progress — a groundbreaking feature at the time. Later on, it was re-released in NES and Famicom cartridge form, and that’s probably the version most gamers experienced first. The floppy disk version of Zelda is originally yellow, but I swapped the shell using a gold cartridge from another game and made myself a golden Zelda floppy disk. Pretty cool, right?

Fable 5 is genuinely cracked at indie games… Fun fact, a lot of people didn’t believe me because it looks too good to be Claude Fable However it lobotomized the original game because my browser was lagging initially, so it made slightly smaller rooms and dimmed the dynamic lighting. Coded almost entirely in assembly, the coders brought their 8-bit mindset from ZX Spectrum and NES era to optimize the game. E.g. managing to compress massive 3D-rendered graphics onto a 32-megabit cartridge. The core movement and physics were designed with high efficiency, which was a hallmark of 8-bit coding.
