Fainting goats??? 🐐 🤣🤣😂😂😂

Fainting goats—officially called myotonic goats—don’t actually faint. What happens is a genetic condition called myotonia congenita, which causes their muscles to temporarily stiffen when they’re startled or overly excited. For a few seconds, their legs lock up, and they might topple over like a cartoon character. A few key points: •They stay awake the whole time—it’s not a loss of consciousness. •The stiffness usually lasts 5–20 seconds, then they get right back up like nothing happened. •It’s a hereditary quirk, not painful or dangerous for them (and many live perfectly normal goat lives). •The trait was originally useful for farmers—predators chasing a herd would often grab the “frozen” goat, letting the others escape. Basically, fainting goats are the slapstick comedians of the farmyard—nature’s way of showing us that even goats can have pratfalls.

Yeah, It's is supposedly some kind of defense mechanism. They are a riot to have around.

It’s hilarious! 😂

I just said to a friend yesterday if I had a little farm it would surely have fainting goats... for the giggles.

I would too!

I read that it's from a mutation 🧬 propagated via artificial selection to make goats easier to herd/manage, not a defense mechanism. Essentially, their muscles lock up due to faulty chloride channels in muscle cell membranes. Myotonia is beneficial for muscular growth too, so that is also a perceived benefit to ranchers. Kind of sad to think about actually.

How can you not laugh.

Right?

💯💯💯

Pretty much disproves darwins whole theory because with these survival instincts these things should have gone extinct eons ago

I have two. They're great. They have great personalities. They dont actually pass out they get stiff and lock their muscles and fall over. Mine are funny bc they will partially stiffen and just half will freeze. Its hilarious.

I want one.

Me too!!

Fainting goat? 😆

lol, How are these things NOT extinct by now... I can see it now a pack of wolves run up to them, they hop then run for 3 feet then fall over passed out... One wolf says to the other, "Are you seeing this, we scared them to death, free eats all around, just yell Boo. free dinner".

Looks more like seizures

@DameScorpio I still feel bad for them. lol

How this species has survived, only god knows.😅

This is the worst defense mechanism

Echt niet leuk, het heeft een naam ... Myotonia congenita ... een genetische aandoening!

@CL4WS_OUT I feel bad for them.

Grow the fuck up. Why deliberately induce distress??! Wankers.

Theses The Michael Jordan Goats

I have a few and it’s hilarious to watch

Is this some natural kind of defense mechanism?

It’s super funny until you realize they are fully conscious and can feel pain from falling on their faces or off tables.

Goats are hilarious! 😂

@NowPammsy LeBron goats. 😂😂😂

@sep16000 This always makes me smile. Thank you Suzee Q

So funny!😂🤣

They’re not fainting. They have myotonia congenita, a condition which causes their muscles to lock up after sudden movement. It looks funny, but it’s really not so great for the goats.

Why people continue to breed a genetic defect for grins and giggles is beyond me. Try living your life like that.

What causes this? @grok

I never thought this to be funny. When they seize and fall they can get hurt 😞 and nevermind what their body has to go through to recover from this each time it happens.

They all got mrna vaccines

Were they vaxxed??

When I run into top celebrities like @MamaB2485

How do they survive as a species without humans?

Fainter Goats - We run them with our cattle so when coyotes attack the pack take a goat which fainted or froze in place out of fear worth $50 vs a $1,000 calf.

There must be some physiological or psychological reason behind that behaviour. It's unusual in my part of the 🌍.
