fandom discourse is pointless because this is the average level of media literacy these days, OPEN THE SCHOOLS

She was like "I see you're struggling so imma make it crystal clear for you 😭"

“need some help, friend?”

this is about detroit become human, a game that is super neutral and not trying to portray any specific message btw [looks at the camera like i'm in the office]

people going “but david cage said…” THAT’S THE JOKE. the joke is that david cage keeps trying to pretend it’s not about race while he puts androids in the back of the bus and can’t stop quoting mlkjr. it’s a totally neutral non allegory about nothing in particular. riiiight?

i’ll mute this now because a lot of people in the replies and qrts decided to let everyone know they can’t read and i can’t be bothered to teach them lol thanks for proving my point!!!

DBH is to racism as the Barbie Movie is to feminism. They serve their topics well but they BEAT you over the head with them— subtly is nowhere to be seen. I cannot fathom how someone could misunderstand the allegory when it’s soooo obvious 😭😭😭😭

@solluxs_lexapro this except if the barbie movie director also went on interviews saying “the movie isn’t ACTUALLY about feminism, it’s about a doll, i don’t know why people are projecting feminism onto it but it’s definitely just about a doll”

Im fucking crying youre so right

Ok, I get why people are roasting them, but AT LEAST THEY REALIZED THEIR MISTAKE! Like, I don't know how far into the game they are, but maybe they just hadn't connected the dots yet, but were always going to eventually.

i mean good for them for not being TOO far gone but if you can’t connected detroit become human dots fast enough i’m afraid they shouldn’t give you a job giving commentary on any piece of media

In fairness they don't seem to be very far along into the game when this clip was made. I can see the early game being interpreted as primarily about class warring than race relations. The real heavy handed "metaphors" come in the latter half.

this is after they play the game for 2 and a half hours.

I would argue the reason media literacy is so low currently is the lack of real fandom discourse. People just speak to people who agree with them or scream at those who don’t.

“It’s not about race” and 90% of the game is the most obvious and on the nose symbolisms of race in the entire medium of gaming

they were so subtle with it, i’m surprised anyone saw the subtext…

This happens in the first hour mind you 😭

this is the type of shit you see in the xenoblade fandom

"It's not about race in a specific way" Translation: "I only care about race once it’s abstracted enough that I can imagine white people like myself as the victim"

LMAO this clip, chloe acquiring sentience two times over. incredible.

The game is literally a carbon copy of the American civil rights movement but worse because it was written by David Cage

Totally not about race.

"Its not about race" game that opens like this.

David Cage himself said that it is a story about androids. It's a confused, dogshit narrative that you really don't need to shoot for so hard.

that’s the joke. the joke is that david cage keeps trying to pretend it’s not about race while he puts androids in the back of the bus and can’t stop quoting mlkjr. it’s a totally neutral non allegory about nothing in particular. riiiight?

guess this is why so many people view this game as a masterpiece, this is the average person who plays David Cage games lol

It’s time for the clip that just keeps on giving.

They're speaking words, but there's no meaning in it

"or we could be wrong" well yes!

"there are probably elements that can be read as being about race" and some of the imagery for the android rebellion is a rising fist image and an MLK quote btw

The funny thing is that the game constantly undermines its own message by making all Androids superior to humans with super hive mind powers and matrix reflexes.

I love the game, but it bludgeons you over the head with it's message right from the off, what is wrong with them?

keep in mind, the second scene in the entire game is the one where the robots are forced to sit on the back of the bus after all the humans screams at them for taking their jobs. this isnt even the best example, this game is just extremely direct from the very start

media literacy = people agreeing with me

"It's not about race" when the robots travel the Underground Railroad to Canada to escape slavery and have to stand at the back of the bus and protest via civil rights era marches and then the bad robots get sent to die in concentration camps and the robots took our jobs.

No... Not LoadingReadyRun slander on my feed... No... They're my GOATs...

She literally just went "Oh the subtext is too complicated? Let me just say it out loud" 😭😭

The best part about this game is that one of the worst ending just reveals that the Android sentience was planned by big corpo. They were just some fakey-fake robots with no real sentience.

dbh is like baby's first allegory for racism 😭

The timing was perfect

Detroit Become Human one of the best games in the history of gaming. Won’t even comment on these two subjects cos the thing is pretty self explanatory

Disregard lame gotchas. Appreciate comedy (by LRR).
