A family dispute turned deadly in Karnataka's Ballari district after a woman and her father were allegedly hacked to death during what was supposed to be a reconciliation meeting at the accused's house. Police have taken the woman's husband and his father into custody and launched a detailed investigation into the double murder. The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Nagalakshmi and her 48-year-old father Srinivasa. According to the police, Nagalakshmi's husband Teja had invited her and her father to his residence in Guggarahatti village on the pretext of resolving long-standing marital differences. Investigators said that during the meeting, an argument reportedly broke out, following which Teja and his father, Gurushankar, allegedly attacked the two visitors with sharp-edged weapons. Both victims sustained severe injuries and died on the spot before they could receive medical assistance. Preliminary inquiries suggest that Teja frequently suspected his wife's character, leading to repeated disputes between the couple. Police believe the suspicion may have been the primary motive behind the killings, though all possible angles are being examined as part of the investigation. Unlike many similar cases, the accused did not flee after the crime. Police said the father and son allegedly remained at the house with the bodies until officers arrived after receiving information from local residents. A police team rushed to the scene, conducted a spot inspection and shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination. Both accused have been detained for questioning, and a murder case has been registered under relevant provisions of the law. Senior police officers said forensic evidence has been collected from the crime scene and statements of family members and neighbours are being recorded to establish the sequence of events. Authorities are also verifying whether previous complaints of domestic disputes had been reported before the fatal incident. The gruesome killings have shocked residents of the area, with locals demanding strict action against the accused. Police said further investigation is underway and additional details are expected to emerge after questioning the suspects and examining forensic reports

A man in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife by slitting her throat with a paper cutter after she objected to his alleged extramarital affair, official said on Saturday. The incident took place in the Lisari Gate where the victim, identified as Kausar, was found dead in a pool of blood inside her home at around 8 am on Friday. Initially, the killing was suspected to have been carried out by an unidentified assailant using a sharp weapon. Police said the accused, Kausar's husband Saqib, attempted to pass off the murder as a case of theft. At the time of the incident, the couple's three young daughters were present in the house. Saqib allegedly instructed one of the children to tell police that robbers had entered the house and killed their mother. According to officials, Kausar had been opposing her husband's alleged illicit relationship with another woman. This, police said, led to frequent disputes between the couple and ultimately resulted in the murder. Saqib allegedly used a paper cutter to slit his wife's throat while she was asleep. After the crime, Saqib tried to mislead both the police and his family. He fabricated a story about an unknown attacker dressed in black and even staged grief to avoid suspicion. However, inconsistencies in his statements raised red flags during questioning. Police said Saqib repeatedly changed his version of events during interrogation. As officials gathered evidence and intensified questioning, he eventually confessed to the crime. Based on his disclosure, the murder weapon was recovered. Saqib works installing mobile towers during the day and drives a rickshaw at a mandi at night to support his family. Meerut SP City Vinayak Gopal Bhosale confirmed the arrest and detailed the sequence of events during a press briefing. Police also revealed that the accused had earlier tried to pressure his wife into ending her life and would allegedly provoke her frequently. The murder has left behind three young daughters without either parent, their mother dead and their father now in jail, raising concerns about their future care and upbringing.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in this district for allegedly killing his wife, suspecting her of having an extramarital affair, police said on Tuesday. He apparently filmed the victim's final moments while she was hanging from a noose. The woman, identified as Bhagyashree Jigalur (23), was found dead at the couple's house in Galagali village in Bilagi taluk on Monday evening, they said. Police registered a murder case against the deceased woman's husband, Praveen Ashok Jigalur, based on a complaint filed by her father. He has been arrested on murder charges, police said. According to police, the accused allegedly filmed his wife in her final moments while she was hanging from the noose, with the video purportedly showing her struggling, and later circulated it to several people, including her family members. However, investigators are yet to determine whether the woman was assaulted and then hanged or whether she died by hanging after an assault, since there were blood injuries found on her body. Around 5:30 pm, the accused called the victim's father and informed him that she had died. Preliminary investigation suggested that the accused suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship with another man. Police have recovered videos allegedly found on the woman's mobile phone, as well as those recorded by the accused after the incident. "The accused shared those videos with the woman's father, family members and some friends. We have recovered those videos," Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal said. According to the SP, the videos allegedly showing the affair were found on the wife's phone by the accused, who copied those videos to his own phone and shared them with some of his friends. "We have seized the husband's mobile phone. During its examination, we found videos that allegedly led him to suspect his wife was having an extramarital affair. We are examining those videos to determine the circumstances that led to the crime," he said. The SP added that even the victim's family had acknowledged they were aware of the alleged affair. Responding to reports that the accused may have made a video call to the man with whom his wife allegedly had the affair and showed him what had happened, Goyal said: "We have to verify that. We have seized the phone and sent it for data extraction. We will examine the call records, the data available on the device, and recover any deleted data, if possible." Police said the couple married in 2020 and lived together for about four years. They have a three-year-old son. According to the preliminary investigation, while the husband was working as a driver and travelling frequently over the past two years, the woman allegedly developed a relationship with another man from the area where her parental home is located. The alleged affair led to frequent disputes between the couple, police said. The woman had been staying at her parents' house for the last one-and-a-half months. Investigators are also looking into her alleged complaints that her husband was not taking proper care of her. According to the SP, on Monday, the accused allegedly went to his in-laws' house and brought his wife back to their home. The two were alone when the incident happened. Police said blood injuries were found on the woman's body and an iron rod-like weapon has been recovered. Officers have also collected evidence from the crime scene for forensic examination. "The post-mortem examination will clarify the nature of the injuries on the neck. We are also examining whether she was given any intoxicating substance. Stomach contents have been preserved and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis," the officer said. Beer bottles were also found at the scene and police are examining whether the woman had been made to consume alcohol. "There are blood injuries on the woman's body, and the accused appeared to harbour resentment towards her. Instead of attempting to save her, he recorded videos and immediately shared them with several people. The exact sequence of events will be established after a detailed investigation," he said. Police said they would seek the accused's custody to verify the authenticity and timing of the videos recovered from the woman's phone, question witnesses and examine whether village panchayat meetings had earlier been held over the couple's marital disputes. Further investigation is underway.

A suspicious death in Andhra Pradesh's Pileru town has taken a dramatic turn after CCTV footage and other evidence reportedly led police to suspect that a 47-year-old man was murdered at his home and his body later dumped on the Tirupati highway. The man who died has been identified as Subrahmanyam, a resident of Dish Colony in Pileru. His body was found with bleeding injuries on the highway on Saturday. Locals initially suspected that he had been knocked down by an unidentified vehicle. The case took a new turn after Subrahmanyam's father, Krishnaiah, raised suspicions about his daughter-in-law, Umadevi, who told police that he could not contact his son, daughter-in-law or grandson. When he reached their house, it was locked and both Umadevi and her son Lohith were reportedly missing. Police subsequently examined the house and the route leading to the highway. Investigators have found bloodstains and began analysing CCTV footage from the area, which have provided important clues about the movement of a two-wheeler and the transportation of the body. Pileru DSP Krishna Mohan said preliminary investigation found frequent disputes between the couple. The police officer added that the man's father had also alleged that Umadevi was involved in an extramarital relationship and that police were investigating that angle. Based on the statement, police are also examining whether the alleged relationship could have provided a motive for the killing and whether anyone else assisted in moving and disposing of the body. Umadevi and Lohith have been detained and questioned, while investigators are working to establish the exact sequence of events and cause of death or whether it was a planned murder. The police are investigating whether the body was deliberately placed on the highway to make the death appear like a road accident.
