On to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. And we intend to win it. A comfortable win against Brentford, not a vintage performance, but a typical City win. Comfortable, brilliant in possession. Seven academy graduates in the team with Charlie Gray becoming the 37th academy graduate to debut under Pep Guardiola. An incredible record. A brilliant performance from Cherki, the things he can do are unbelievable. A fantastic showing from Savinho too, hopefully the start of many more. Credit to Trafford in goal and Khusanov at the back (need to keep his aggression in check). Overall, a controlled and professional performance. The composure in the second half after Bernardo/Gvardiol came on was top class. We take the win and march on to the semis. Come on, City! 💙

Now watch what actually happened in one of the most decisive games of the 2006/07 season. Messi and Ronaldinho run toward the referee demanding a yellow card, but the referee tells them to calm down and refuses to book Ramos. Then, after Casillas saves a Ronaldinho effort, Messi reacts quickest to the rebound and scores again to level the match. Motherwell In Possession I've been so impressed by Motherwell's performance and style this season. After watching back their 5-0 win from Saturday, I noticed a few key themes/principles of their play in possession: • Principle 1 - attackers occupy the spaces between FBs & CBs. This keeps opposition FBs pinned back and allows for moments to exploit opposition miscommunication. • Principle 2 - the "tapered box" in deep build-up: 2 CBs with wide positioning; 2 CMs with narrow positioning. Allows M'Well to comfortably progress the ball forward using diagonal & bounce passes. Attracts pressure from St Mirren, creating lots of space between defence & midfield to exploit. • Principle 3 - the use of 1-touch play to change the tempo. 1-touch passing disoriented St Mirren at times and didn't allow them to get appropriate pressure on the ball. It was also evident, especially on the left, that only 1 player needs to hold width (Longelo), Slattery was given a licence to roam inside and create overloads in the midfield, making it difficult for the St Mirren midfield. I genuinely believe if they had a proper goalscorer in the 1st part of the season M'well would have been top of the league as they have consistently been the best side.

So what exactly are you trying to say about their “quality” now that you wear a different shirt? Because before questioning the quality around you, maybe have a look at this video. These are YOUR misses. YOUR wasted sitters. YOUR huge chances thrown away. YOUR moments in important Barcelona games when teammates created opportunities for you and you simply didn’t finish them. Bro, at no point was Matlou a 10 and Ndlovu an 8. Like, at no point. I can even speak on your behalf and say you didn't see such a thing😫 This was not even 1 of those games where we have rotations. It was a clear double pivot of Maboe and Matlou from the beginning of the match with Ndlovu as a 10. ■ In the 1st 45 minutes, at no point was Ndlovu behind Matlou. Not even once where Matlou was the 10 and Ndlovu an 8 in the double pivot. Even without the ball, Ndlovu would track back until he stood with Silva outside our box while Matlou and Maboe were inside the box fighting for possession. ■ Ndlovu took the place of Mdu in the system, while Matlou took the place of Maboe as more of the 6 in the double pivot. It was Maboe who played closer to Ndlovu, not even Matlou. So, we had box to box functions performed by Maboe, not Matlou. Look at the Zamalek 1st goal, Ndlovu was jogging while the team was under pressure in a defensive transition. It was Matlou and Maboe trying to recover, not Ndlovu. I can make a compilation of both in and out of possession for Ndlovu just to show you he was the 10. But if you re-watch, you won't even get to 20 minutes before you see he was never behind Matlou. These are terrible tactics we don't want to see continue when we have good players. They left Baartman, Sirino, Vilakazi, Matlou, and Mdu just to use Ndlovu as a 10.
