But the Bill does not target Christians or churches specifically. It applies to all organisations receiving foreign contributions. In 2019, Yair Netanyahu openly referred to countries funding NGOs that campaign against each other’s political and territorial interests. That statement showed why foreign funding cannot always be treated as neutral charity. NGOs can also become instruments of influence. The entire Opposition is demanding that the draconian FCRA Amendment Bill be withdrawn. On the one hand, RSS gets crores in foreign funding, while on the other, minority-run institutions and NGOs are subjected to laws design to harass them. Buckling under pressure, the Home Minister has now been forced to recommend that it be sent to a JPC, instead of bulldozing it in Parliament. Even in the JPC, we will continue to strongly oppose this Bill and will not allow these unconstitutional and coercive provisions to become law.
