OpenAI just announced API access to o1 (advanced reasoning model) yesterday. I'm delighted to announce today a new short course, Reasoning with o1, built with OpenAI, and taught by Colin Jarvis, Head of AI Solutions at OpenAI, to show you how to use this effectively! Unlike previous language models which generate output directly, o1 “thinks before it responds,” and generates many reasoning tokens before returning a more thoughtful and accurate response. It is great at complex reasoning -- including planning for agentic workflows, coding, and domain-specific reasoning in STEM fields like law. But how you should use it is quite different from other LLMs. I think o1 will be a game changer for many AI applications; and in this course, you'll learn how to use it effectively. In detail, you’ll: - Learn to recognize what tasks o1 is suited for, and when to use a smaller model, or combine o1 with a smaller model - Understand the new principles of prompting reasoning models: Be simple and direct; no explicit chain-of-thought required; use structure; show rather than tell - Implement multi-step orchestration in which o1 plans, and hands tasks over to gpt-4o-mini to execute specific steps; this illustrates a design pattern to optimize intelligence (accuracy) and cost - Use o1 for a coding task to build a new application, edit existing code, and test performance by running a coding competition between o1-mini and GPT 4o - Use o1 for image understanding and learn how it performs better with a "hierarchy of reasoning," in which it incurs the latency and cost upfront, preprocessing the image and indexing it with rich details so it can be used for Q&A later - Learn a technique called meta-prompting, in which you use o1 to improve your prompts. Using a customer support evaluation set, you'll iteratively use o1 to modify a prompt to improve performance You'll also learn about how OpenAI used reinforcement learning to produce a model that uses "test-time compute" to improve performance. The Visual Studio Code insiders version that just shipped and will ship in the next few days will come with an insane amount of new capabilities. A few highlights: - You can now run sub-agents in parallel. Yes, really. I even attached a video. - Major UX improvements for sub agents, especially visible in the chat window - A new search tool wrapped as a sub-agent that iteratively runs multiple search tools: semantic_search, file_search, grep_search Which connects nicely to the point above: multiple searches running in parallel, efficiently and fast - Anthropic’s Message API is now enabled by default - You can choose the model for the cloud agent (three available, all premium) - Extended thinking support when using the Claude cloud agent This is part of the broader multi-vendor cloud support under AgentsHQ I wrote about a few weeks ago - Tasks sent to the background agent (basically the CLI tool) now always run in isolation, each with its own git worktree - In a multi-repo workspace, assigning a task to a cloud agent prompts you to choose the target repo Same behavior when opening an empty workspace with no repo - Support for building an external index for files not supported by GitHub’s default indexing - UI/UX improvements for starting new sessions and switching between local / background / cloud agents - Skills are now first-class citizens, just like prompt files, with better UX indicating when a skill is loaded - Improved API for dynamic contribution of prompt files New V2 includes skills as part of the model. The biggest thing is: Intercom Integration is here and it's unlike, anything you've seen or tried before. When you add Intercom to BuildBetter, we process every ticket by type, topic, sentiment, emotion, and impact, allowing you to analyze trends and find specific quotes easily. You can even chat with every support ticket in combination with your internal data. It's accuracy is unlike any other platform. Mike is back and better than ever. Mike ( has undergone a major refresh packed with new features, design improvements, and quality-of-life enhancements. And as always, everything is open source. Here is a summary of the major updates: 1. Legal research Case law hallucinations are a massive problem. To address this, Mike's assistant can now produce grounded citations backed by case law from CourtListener. The integration is tight and highly intuitive. Every answer includes links to cited cases, along with supporting quotations from judicial opinions to substantiate each proposition made by the AI. The assistant also researches cases in much the same way a lawyer would. It retrieves potentially relevant authorities, verifies the accuracy of citations, and searches for keywords that align with the research topic. Support for additional jurisdictions will be added soon. 2. Improved user interface (UI) The UI has been redesigned around Apple's Liquid Glass design principles, giving the application a cleaner and more minimalist feel down to every modal and button. The setup process is currently somewhat manual, but one-click authentication and onboarding will be added in a future release. Mike is back and better than ever. Mike ( has undergone a major refresh packed with new features, design improvements, and quality-of-life enhancements. And as always, everything is open source. Here is a summary of the major updates: 1. Legal research Case law hallucinations are a massive problem. To address this, Mike's assistant can now produce grounded citations backed by case law from CourtListener. The integration is tight and highly intuitive. Every answer includes links to cited cases, along with supporting quotations from judicial opinions to substantiate each proposition made by the AI. The assistant also researches cases in much the same way a lawyer would. It retrieves potentially relevant authorities, verifies the accuracy of citations, and searches for keywords that align with the research topic. Support for additional jurisdictions will be added soon. 2. Improved user interface (UI) The UI has been redesigned around Apple's Liquid Glass design principles, giving the application a cleaner and more minimalist feel down to every modal and button. Hello Cardano community! To solve it, we want to bring external liquidity, and we are looking at CeFi liquidity on centralized exchanges. We plan to onboard CeFi traders and bring them to trade on-chain in Cardano. CeFi here is defined as crypto-ready users conducting their trade in centralized exchanges. The daily trading volume of $ADA at the current price amounts to ~250m USD, with only around 1% happening natively on the Cardano blockchain and the rest happening in CEXes such as Binance. Even if we only onboard a further 1% of that trading volume onto Cardano. There’s already 2X of current liquidity! The $ADA volume is only less than 1% of total CeFi market. Massive opportunities ahead! How do we bring CeFi liquidity on-chain? What do the CeFi traders care about the most? The current biggest challenge for CeFi traders is fund safety. With the collapses of FTX, BlockFi, CeFi traders suffered significant losses of their assets, amounting to 46 billion USD. Unsurprisingly, CeFi liquidity is in search of a solution without platform risk, at the same time, they still want a similar experience with trading on centralized exchanges. TLDR: CeFi liquidity is looking for CeFi trading experience with enhanced fund safety That is why we are building DeltaDeFi to onboard CeFi liquidity, and here's how we are doing it: 🔷 1. Zero order management fee (zero transaction fee placing and canceling orders), transaction fees only occur when your order is matched - In CeFi, traders place multiple orders and cancel multiple orders within a second when they receive market signals from their proprietary sources. Donchaab’s CEO: How the brand was born and where it’s heading 🍌 #OFFROAD #offroad_KTP #ออฟโรด โดนฉาบ The Origin of DonChaab 🚗: It started when my mom came to visit me from our hometown. She brought snacks I like, and one of them was banana chips. At first, I didn’t even know where she bought them. At that time, P’Ou was visiting too, and we finished all of them. Later, I told my fans about it, and they suggested launching pre-orders for the banana chips — probably around two years ago now. Back then, they were just in these clear plastic packages, without FDA approval or Halal certification. The goal was simply to support the auntie who made them. She was supporting her grandchildren and her disabled husband. So every time we opened pre-orders, it felt like we were giving hope to that family. In return, we felt fulfilled as givers. When the fans learned about this, they realized they were helping support the family too. I kept it going without thinking much about profits. Looking back, I think it was such a beautiful beginning. 🚗: Later, I decided to continue building on it and named the brand DonChaab. The inspiration for the name partly came from the song “Chaab,” which has a fun and cute vibe. I continued selling to fans until demand exceeded supply. They couldn’t produce enough, and orders fell behind. So I thought, let’s start this properly — and that’s how this was born 🍌✨ (shows the current DonChaab) — Nong DonChaab. The mascot’s name is Jao Chaab, proposed and voted on by the fans. (turns the package) And this is Nong’s back. Many fruits are exported from Thailand, and I thought it would be really cool if Thai traditional fruit snacks could also reach overseas markets. Look — it even says “Product of Thailand” on the back, which I’m really proud of! 🚗: I launched the brand not long ago, and I’m still learning as I go — adjusting the packaging, the service system, the toppings, and everything else. That’s how the brand came to be — expanding from supporting one local farmer to supporting many. In general, not just for DonChaab, when you buy processed agricultural products like this, you help reduce waste. When supply exceeds demand, produce might go to waste. By turning them into processed products, they can instead be distributed to consumers. 🚗: The brand will definitely implement Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, but that depends on your support. A portion of the profits will be allocated toward CSR. As I said in one interview — as someone who has received so much, if one day I feel that I’ve received enough, I want to start giving back. I know Rivian and Wassym Bensaid can fix this. I know it takes time, but it’s time. There is no other software out there like Rivian. They have made their own way in the vehicle software world. But, we have to stop calling out fixes when things aren’t fixed. I love this company. And everything they stand for. But it’s really time for it to be pulled together. I have offered to help in any way possible with getting software bugs fixed, noticed, etc., and here we are. I still stand fully committed to helping them. We really need the app to be able to handle more than one authentication for driving and profile swapping at a time. It’s time. I know Rivian and Wassym Bensaid can fix this. I know it takes time, but it’s time. There is no other software out there like Rivian. They have made their own way in the vehicle software world. openai and anthropic probably have terrible sales reps they're talented, but they've never actually had to sell anything. ben horowitz said it best in a recent conversation: "right now with openai and anthropic, everybody wants to buy ai. they're already predisposed to buy." that's order-taking, not selling. let's zoom in on this distinction. 1) the order-taker problem cloudflare's CEO admitted in 2023 their product was so good that "many of our sales team succeeded largely by just taking orders." deals were like "fish jumping right in the boat." then the economy shifted and they fired 100 salespeople who'd contributed just 4% of new business. when your product sells itself, mediocre reps look like rockstars. they crush quota, win the president's club, and get promoted into leadership. nobody knows they can't actually sell until the fish stop jumping in the boat. 2) why hard sells matter ben won't shut up about ptc, a 90s cad/cam company. the product "wasn't that great." "the windshield wiper didn't work." but that forced discipline. you had to map accounts systematically, lay traps for competitors, and build airtight technical cases. his favorite hire was ryan gabrisco at databricks, who came from a company selling secure ftp as a public company. think about how good you have to be to make quota selling that. when ben hires sales leaders, he looks for people from companies where the product was hard to sell because that's the only way to test if someone can actually sell. 3) what happens when markets turn every hot market eventually cools. i'll give you a few examples. salesforce in 2001. facebook ads in 2012. aws in 2015. the order-takers got exposed every time. modern AI sales reps don't know how to qualify prospects who aren't already sold or how to systematically lock out competitors or how to build pipeline when inbound dries up. ben's story about hiring at Okta: two candidates, one super enthusiastic, the other said "let me talk to your customers first." ben told the ceo: "you want the guy qualifying YOU. that's what good salespeople do." 4) openai scaled their sales team from 10 to 500 people in under two years. anthropic is scaling fast too. but how would anyone know if they're good? you can't test sales ability when customers are lined up begging to buy. when real competition arrives, the kind where enterprises have three viable options and care about pricing, support, and vendor risk, AI companies will discover which GTM leaders can actually sell and which ones were just processing waitlists. 5) how to hire right if you're building a GTM team right now, think like a value investor. resumes don't matter. look for human capital that the market has significantly underpriced. someone who's had to sell a product that didn't sell itself, someone who's built discipline through necessity, not abundance (no order-takers). find the person who sold enterprise software at a company nobody's heard of. find the person who had to fight for every deal because the competitor was already embedded in the account. the person who figured out how to systematically lock out competition even when they were the underdog. those skills matter. for AI companies, the question is whether they can close deals when the market shifts. because when inbound dries up (it always does), you'll discover who can actually sell.

The “everything palette” has been in the back of my mind for years. I feel that, when correctly automated, it demonstrates an important property of a GUI system, which is an internal interface represented structurally (a common substrate by which all higher level interfaces communicate), and several projections of that interface to higher level interfaces (GUIs, CLIs, hotkeys), such that the internal interface is not substantially duplicated in the projections themselves. Thus, small changes in the internal interface representation immediately and automatically reflect in all such projections. All information for a new setting, for example, is simply expressed in one location, and all interfaces which could access that setting immediately can do so. That setting is automatically accessible in the associated right-click menus, the CLI, hotkeys, and the everything palette. This is because those higher level interfaces are truly *projections* of the underlying interface—they are driven using, in effect, type information of the underlying interface, rather than being special cased to the particulars of the interface (and thus needing to be extensively updated any time the internal interface is changed). The need for this in UI programming is usually first encountered with hotkeys. You write some user interface, and now you need to associate hotkeys—an entirely separate (physical) interface—with the same functionality that your software user interface exposes. You can implement this by, in effect, duplicating the internal interface in both a hotkeys path, and a GUI path. But this is far from ideal for obvious reasons. The debugger by nature enforces this design constraint (GUIs and hotkeys), along with many others, and so it pushed me to follow this to its natural conclusion. A debugger needs to offer an IPC CLI interface for the same commands and features that the main program does. Data in the debugger is already projected in a wide variety of ways—breakpoints can show up in a source view, a disassembly view, a memory view, and a breakpoints list view. My work on the RADDBG visualization engine (driven ultimately by the “watch window” interface—at its limit, a general sparse tree viewer/editor) pushed this even further—you want interfaces to be available through a watch tree evaluation language, as well as several GUIs, and the CLI, and hotkeys. I’ve now finally got the internal systems to the point where they are roughly satisfying all these constraints, and this made the “everything palette” a very simple and natural extension to the system.
