With hours until a government shutdown, hundreds of thousands of federal workers could be furloughed over the holidays if there's no deal in place before the midnight deadline. The pathway to an agreement needs to involve both Democrats and Republicans, says CBS News' Scott MacFarlane. "There is no way to keep the government open to avoid a shutdown without both Republican and Democratic votes."

Thousands of federal workers are going without pay here in the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos as a result of the Schumer Shutdown, including TSA agents and air traffic controllers. That's why I voted for a clean, nonpartisan continuing resolution to fund the government, and it's why I'm co-leading legislation to pay all of our federal employees and servicemembers who continue to work without pay. It's time for Senate Democrats to end this shutdown and give these employees the pay they've earned.

Unlike federal workers, our federal contractors — that includes food service workers and janitorial staff who keep Congress running - did not receive back pay after the government shutdown ended. Ms. Willie has been a federal contractor for 44 years at the Library of Congress. During the shutdown she and her fellow UNITE HERE members joined me for lunch at my office. They missed paychecks during Republicans' government shutdown & had to find other ways to keep her bills paid. I'm fighting for our workers to get the back pay they deserve, and my Fair Pay for Federal Contractors Act would do just that. Congress should pass our bill immediately.
