Anytime I see the idea that KOC didn’t want a young QB, specifically McCarthy, I go back to this clip from when JJ got injured last pre-season. Either KOC does/did believe in JJ or he used the one term Vikings fans wanted to hear most and didn’t mean it whatsoever. I don’t think it’s the latter.

Mike Florio reported on a recent episode of ProFootballTalk Live that KOC was "overruled" during the Vikings' 2025 offseason QB search -- that he wanted Darnold, Jones and Rodgers but didn't have a choice but to role with JJ McCarthy and Sam Howell. "As I understand it, O'Connell got overruled. He wanted to have Darnold or Jones or Aaron Rodgers, and he got overruled. They said no to Rodgers. Rodgers wanted to play for them last year, and they said no. They're sticking with JJ McCarthy."
