Few public intellectuals have done more to warn Americans about how the coddling of children produces intolerant adults than Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianoff. Their 2018 book, The Coddling of the American Mind, argued that helicopter parenting, the decline of unsupervised play, and the rise of campus safetyism had...

Sainik School Tragedy: Bail Hearing Ends in Controversy In a shocking turn of events, the bail hearing of the accused students in the Sainik School student death case ended with the Principal Magistrate of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) recusing himself from giving an order. According to Tadu Nancy, the victim's sister, the Principal Magistrate abruptly left the courtroom without providing a proper reason. The JJB later passed a verdict, stating that the accused students would be placed under the custody of the Vice Principal, where the accused students will be staying separately at the school, instead of being sent to a juvenile home. This decision has sparked widespread outrage, with many questioning the fairness of the judicial process. The parents of the other students studying at Sainik School have expressed deep concern over the safety of their children, especially since the accused students are still in the school under the Vice Principal's custody. They have alleged that the accused students, were seen playing and eating with other students after the Principal Magistrate sent the 8 CCLs(child in conflict with law) under the custody of Vice Principal of Sainik School on 4th of November, which has further fueled their anger and frustration. The CCTV footage of the incident has revealed chilling details about the extent of the bullying and harassment that the victim suffered. According to the footage, the Class 8 students started giving punishment to Haro for 30 minutes, during which his legs were shivering and after that the Class 10 students collectively punished all the Class 7 students together, and then they punished the victim alongside with a another student and then again they punished the victim alone. The footage also shows that a Class 11 student intervened to stop the punishment, but the damage had already been done. The victim was allegedly harassed mentally and physically for three hours before the incident occurred. The family has demanded that the accused students be removed from the school and placed in a juvenile home until the case is resolved. They have also demanded that the school take strict measures to prevent bullying and ensure the safety of all students. Three more students have been implicated in the incident. Initially, it was stated that these three students were not involved, but a review of the CCTV footage has revealed that they were indeed involved in the alleged ragging and physical a result, the parents of the victim have announced that they will file a complaint against these three students as well. The next bail hearing in the case is scheduled for November 15. The parents have urged the authorities to check the backup of the CCTV footage for the past 15 days and to take action against all the students involved in the incident. The case has sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding strict action against those responsible.

I was in disbelief while watching Muhammad Yunus’s speech to the business community on the 12th of September. That speech had zero substance, was not at all rooted in reality — and was self-serving through and through. The news of factory closures for labour unrest, production being hampered for days on end, vandalism of factories and businesses, work orders and investments being diverted from Bangladesh and the overall dicey law and order situation — are truly alarming developments. And I assume the gathering of the business community was to send out a strong message from the head of the government that such anarchy, mob justice, lawlessness and belligerence will not be tolerated any further. Let alone a strong message he didn’t even touch upon this issue. In his address to the nation on the 8th of September, he touched upon this issue barely in passing — when it should have been one of the highlights of his speech. You’d have even missed it were you not listening in to the speech with rapt attention. One way to construe his disinterest in the issue is that he tacitly approves of this newfound belligerence and mob rule. Or else why would you not strongly condemn such acts — and pledge exemplary actions against the miscreants — that are kicking your economy towards the edge? I’d say Yunus’s speech was downright disrespectful and offensive — to the business community, to all those who lost their lives in the movement to ouster the Sheikh Hasina government, and to the generations before us who built Bangladesh into what it is today. By harping on and on about the great sacrifice that the students made, he disrespected those who died as most of them were not public university students. By not talking about the private sector’s most pressing issue and lecturing them to do social business, he disrespected the entire business community and the spirit of entrepreneurship that drives our nation. By calling Bangladesh a rotten country that needs building from the ground up, he disrespected the generations before us that carried Bangladesh over from 1971. The speech was a trashy attempt at tapping into people’s emotions and was full of empty words. And yes, there were quite a few inaccuracies in that speech. No, Mr Yunus, the students’ movement was not about building a new Bangladesh — it was always about reforming the quota system for government jobs. Sheikh Hasina’s resignation was always the public’s demand — and long before this movement started. What is most outrageous is that he says he has come to drill in the message that we have the chance to rebuild Bangladesh because of the students’ deaths. C’mon, how can you manipulate facts like this? This is not expected from someone of his stature. He says the business tycoons should be grateful to the students because they have opened up new opportunities, that the business community should use those new opportunities to realise the students’ dreams of building a new Bangladesh. He urges the business community not to tread on the wrong path thinking about the dead students. How ridiculous does this sound to a balanced, rational adult? How did this man make a living as a motivational speaker all these years? At this point, his non-stop eulogising of the students is coming across as exceedingly obsequious and artificial. We were all there before July 2024, we all fought the good fight.

[WATCH] THE PRESIDENT WILL NOT RESIGN. When it comes to the President, there is always a distinctive role between him being the President of the party and the state. There are many factors that influence the state in terms of governance and stability. If the President is called upon by some to resign and he keeps quiet it can throw the state into a state of turmoil. I want to make it clear that the officials agreed with the President on his approach, he took us into confidence and explained the factors that led him to make that particular pronouncement. We believe that the President did the right thing in pronouncing in the best interest of South Africa that he will not be resigning. There was nothing in terms of the judgment that warranted the President to resign it was just mere calls made by individuals and political parties that wanted to throw our country into a state of turmoil, uncertainty and anxiety. So it was imperative that he focus on that. It was correct for him to tell the country that from where he is standing there is nothing in the judgement that states he has done any wrongdoing and what he is going to do with the options in front of him and he has made this public. The President will take the Section 89 Report on review based on the outcome of the judgment and the legal advice he has received. There are no daggers out for the President to resign just opportunistic elements. These elements do not know what they want, they want to impeach and want him to resign, they do know what they actually want. The veracity of the report has not been tested in any committee so they don’t have a basis for the President to resign.

100-Level Student of FUTA found dead as police investigate Olaniyi, a student of the Department of Surveying and Geo-informatics, was found dead on Saturday along the North Gate area of the university. An empty bottle of a suspected toxic herbicide was reportedly recovered at the scene, raising concerns that the incident may be linked to su!c!de. The university’s Director of Corporate Communication and Protocol, Adegbenro Adebanjo, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, describing it as tragic and confirming that the student’s parents had been notified. He said university security promptly alerted the police after the discovery, while medical personnel and security operatives assisted in evacuating the body to the mortuary. Adebanjo added that FUTA is cooperating with security agencies in ongoing investigations, while counselling support is being provided to students through the Students Affairs Division. “The Students Affairs Division, FUTA, has always reiterated its readiness and willingness to provide support for students who may be battling with any issues and will continue to do so,” he said. “Students are encouraged to take advantage of the availability of such counselling and guidance when they are faced with any issues on and off campus,” he added. The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that an investigation has commenced into the incident. Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said detectives found no visible signs of violence on the body at the scene. “The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and further examination while investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said. He urged members of the public, particularly young people, to seek help and counselling during difficult times and avoid actions that could endanger their lives.

At Wednesday’s Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, Senator Mark Warner pressed Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard on the fact that her 2026 Annual Threat Assessment contains no mention of foreign election interference for the first time since 2017. Warner treated this as a scandal, evidence that the intelligence community has been muzzled by the Trump administration. Gabbard deflected, saying the assessment “matches the prioritization of threats.” Warner shot back, sarcastically, “I would draw the conclusion there must be no foreign threat to our elections in 2026.” It’s probably the right conclusion. The evidence for foreign interference in U.S. elections was always thin, the response to it was wildly disproportionate, and the infrastructure built to “counter” it did far more damage to American democracy than the interference itself ever did. As I testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government in March 2023, and again in November 2023, the “foreign interference” narrative became the predicate for a domestic censorship operation of extraordinary scope, one that Alex Gutentag and I have spent three years documenting at Public, and which we named the Censorship Industrial Complex. Removing the topic from the threat assessment is a long-overdue correction. Gabbard should have said so plainly and directly.... 🚨 UPDATE from Swarthmore College. This video has everything: Students who love Hamas. Brainwashing. Foreign influence. Hamas terrorists. Students threatening the university. Male students dressed like women who support Hamas. Some dude who calls himself Winona. And YOU, the American taxpayer, are on the hook for all of it. 9 students have been arrested for their participation in violent protests and hundreds of acts of vandalism on campus in support of “Palestine.” They spray painted buildings with symbols that Hamas uses to target the deaths of Jews, like the inverted triangle that one of the students is displaying in an attempt to threaten Jewish students (pic on right). In the video, one of the ringleaders of the Swarthmore 9 explains why they’re so desperate to beat the charges: It’s not so they can get back to their education. It’s so they can get back to fighting and organizing for Palestine. They hijacked part of the campus and named it after a former Hamas member, Hossam Shabat. A student in the video admits that the family of this Hamas terrorist called students 24 hours after his death. That’s… odd. One student who calls himself “Winona” let’s the truth slip about why they need to beat the charges: They want the Swarthmore 9 case to become a blueprint for students across the country… proof that you can riot, vandalize your campus, and hold an entire institution hostage for “Palestine.” These “students” are fighting for legal permission to operate as domestic terrorists on a federally funded campus. And you’re paying for it.

Yale University released a candid report last week documenting why Americans no longer trust higher education in general and the Ivy League in particular. A ten-person faculty committee spent a year examining the collapse. One-third of Yale undergraduates, they note, no longer feel free to express political views in class, up from 17% in 2015. Public confidence in colleges and universities fell from 57% a decade ago to a historic low of 36% in 2024, according to Gallup. Seventy percent of Americans today say the sector is heading in the wrong direction. And Americans are more skeptical of Ivy League universities than any others. But the report fails to identify the cause of the rising censorship and public mistrust, and Yale’s special role in it: the intellectual assault on Western civilization. That academic attack, or “deconstruction,” is aimed at undermining the central commitments of Western civilization, including the pursuit of truth. And it has been going on at Yale and other universities since the 1980s, and arguably longer. There are, of course, other reasons for the worsening of the quality of American universities. The Yale report identifies several contributing factors, each of which is real. Social media amplifies conformity and shaming, and smartphones distract attention. Activist administrators enforce political dogma and overstep their role. Yale employs more than 6,000 managerial staff, roughly matching the undergraduate population. Students self-police. And there is grade inflation. But many of those are downstream of the prior assault on the foundations of the West. When professors teach that all claims to truth mask power, students learn that the moral move is to shame dissenters rather than argue with them. When an institution declares that its mission is “improving the world today,” as Yale’s 2016 mission statement now does, rather than the older and narrower goal of seeking the truth and creating and preserving knowledge, everything becomes political. The Yale report treats self-censorship as a generalized climate, noting carefully that “discomfort appears to be rising across the spectrum.” The phrasing implies symmetry, but a survey of 517 Yale in fall 2025 found that 79% of Republican students say they often self-censor in classroom discussions, while only 29% of Democratic students report the same. A separate survey found that 75% of Republican students and 47% of independents self-censored, compared with 26% of Democrats. In December 2025, researchers found that across Yale’s 43 undergraduate departments, the Law School, and the School of Management, 82.3% of identified faculty are registered Democrats or donate heavily to Democratic candidates, while only 2.3% are Republicans. That is a 36-to-1 ratio. At the School of Management, the ratio runs 78 to 1. At Yale Law School, the faculty is 94% Democrat versus 1.5% Republican. The Political Science department identified exactly one Republican. Twenty-seven of 43 undergraduate departments contained zero Republicans, and three departments contained neither a Republican nor an independent. All of this matters because Yale has a broad societal impact. For example, the “Yale and Slavery Teachers Institute” trains K-12 teachers and promotes teaching the 1619 Project to fourth through sixth graders. The 1619 Project, created and promoted by the New York Times, argues that America began with slavery, not with the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. The 1619 Project frames the United States as essentially racist. The reality is significantly more complex. Thousands of Americans died during the Civil War to end slavery. The Civil Rights Movement is widely viewed as a high point in American history. And the US has taken extraordinary efforts, far beyond other nations, to reduce racial discrimination to the point of creating widespread racial preferences for nonwhites in hiring, contracting, and admissions. No one is arguing that slavery, colonialism, and racial injustice should not be taught, but rather that it should be taught rigorously and in full historical context. Few who peruse Yale’s teaching of slavery will view it as fair or balanced. Instead, it trains teachers to teach children that America is dominated by “white supremacy” and that black people remain victims of it, a false and demoralizing message. The report notes the partisan imbalance in passing but pivoted to the softer language of “intellectual pluralism” and “echo chambers,” calling for department self-studies. It never asks the obvious question: what is the intellectual source of that imbalance?...
