Maple had her third session of training with the mat today. Day 1 she figured out she needed to be on the mat and after she was consistently going there, we paired the cue "place". Day 2 continued with the cue and getting her to consistently go to the mat with the handler on all sides. Today we sat further away from the mat and gave the cue, from a distance, and had her stay there for slightly longer durations. She does very well. We'll continue to practice longer durations and cueing from different spots. Once she's super consistent staying there (that should only take a couple more sessions) and is a bit better at keeping all 4 paws on, we'll add some distractions and take the mat outside and practice. Eventually this will be the behavior she will be asked for if she needs wait quietly. We use it at appointments, coffee shops, checkouts etc. We're often asked what the difference is between a place and a down stay is. When we use a down stay, it means the dog stays in the down position and doesn't move, whereas place is more about a zone. The dog can sit, stand, turn around or lay down, as long as they stay on the mat and behave. It's often used in long durations for working dogs so it gives them the opportunity to reposition themselves to be comfortable. I have looked for words since yesterdat but I couldn't find any until this video. I have just watched Ssegirinya Muhammad crying, asking why anyone would tie him to such grave crimes like murdering people in Masaka — his birthplace — all because of politics. And honestly, I don’t think I have ever been this heartbroken over anything in Ugandan politics. This man gave up his whole life to serve people. From the moment he became an MP, he didn’t start by “dusting himself off” like most of our leaders do. He didn’t focus on buying fancy cars or securing his own comfort. No. He went straight to work for the people who voted him in. He started projects to help the poor, to take care of the sick, to make life a little easier for the struggling families that elected him. He was different. He cared in ways we don’t often see in our leaders. And how did we, as a country, pay him back? We watched as the system came after him. We watched as he was accused of crimes so ridiculous it hurt to even listen. Murder? Really? They accused him of killing his own people in Masaka. And we said nothing. We just looked on as this man’s life was destroyed bit by bit. We saw his health deteriorate in prison, and we kept quiet. We saw him being denied bail even when those closest to him told us he needed urgent medical treatment. We all remember that judge in Masaka who saw him on a Zoom call from prison and still said NO to bail. The Prisons commissioner told us they have the capacity to treat him in prison even when we later learnt that the whole of this country couldn't treat him. I mean, how can someone see another human being suffering like that and still refuse them a chance to get help? No, guys, NO. Ssegirinya is gone. He’s dead. And this wasn’t just nature taking its course. This wasn’t God’s plan. This was us. This was the system. This was our silence. Our looking the other way. We are complicit. We watched the government persecute a man for standing with the people. We watched them destroy him because he cared more about serving than about playing the political game. We let this happen. And now he’s gone. I keep asking myself — is this what politics in this country has come to? Destroying so many people just to stay in power? Locking up anyone who threatens the status quo without any crime? This is not normal my friends, NO. We can’t just move on from this. A man is dead because he chose to serve his people. He gave everything he could to make life better for his people. And in return, he was fought, persecuted, humiliated, and denied basic human decency. We should be ashamed. Ashamed that we let it get to this point. Ashamed that politics in Uganda has become a death sentence for anyone who tries to stand up for the oppressed. And it’s not just Ssegirinya. This is the wrap up to my social experiment going undercover on a dating website as a man trying to get a good woman. Half-assing your dating profile. Mating rituals exist in all walks of the animal kingdom, so if you refuse to show her why she should pick you then don't expect to be picked. We all sell ourselves to the opposite gender in some way. It's just a fact of human life, and whining about it won't serve you well, change that fact, or get the girl. 3. A cringeworthy user name. Sure, your frat buddies will find, "EatYouAllNight69" hilarious, but it's not going to get you anyone worth a damn. Trust me, high value women hate that. 4. You don't want a pen pal, so go in with the idea that your goal is to get her number and get her off that site as soon as possible, or someone else will. Women are desperate for a strong, masculine man she can trust to lead and protect her from the dragons at the gate. A nice guy is too weak and desperate to do it, and a jerk is just mean and abusive. Again, mating rituals exist in every walk of the animal kingdom and humans are no different. You will only get out of this life and a potential mate the effort you are willing to put in, and that includes developing your mind and body to be the best version of yourself. Not just for her, but for you too. A needy guy with low self-esteem is never going to get the girl. Good boundaries and a healthy self image equals success, so get back into the gym and start eating clean. The better you look the better you'll feel. The better you feel the more success in life you'll have. A 300lb girl with 5 kids with different fathers is never going to get a good man. Control your reproduction and stop being a wh*re. Despite what feminists tell you, girls, your body count does matter to him. Keep it low and maintain your dignity. Research has shown time and again that women are instinctively drawn to certain traits like bravery, intelligence, and a willingness to take risks. The mistrial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu By ALOY EJIMAKOR The purpose of this essay is to enhance a better public understanding of the arcane dimensions and complexities arising in the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from 24th September 2024 (when Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako was recused) to 10th February 2025 when Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was surprisingly summoned to appear before the same Justice. Despite our abhorrence for the summons to appear before a Judge who no longer possessed jurisdiction, we nonetheless decided to honor the summons out of respect for the sanctity of the judiciary and the overriding need to avoid the fell consequences of an in-absentia proceedings that would be legally injurious to our Client. So, we appeared with the self-assurance and confidence that the proceedings would, as a matter of law, amount to a nullity because the Judge, having been recused by an extant Order of court, no longer possessed the requisite jurisdiction to conduct the hearing. It therefore came to pass that when the case was called, I immediately went on the record to state that we appeared “under protest”, and that our “limited” appearance is specifically aimed at protecting the constitutional rights of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and thus should, in no way, be misconstrued as succumbing to the jurisdiction of the court. Given this scenario, it therefore follows that - as far as it was conducted by a recused Judge - the infamous proceedings of 10th February 2025 carried all the elements of a “mistrial” of some sorts, to the extent that the purported order of adjournment sine die made by the Judge at the close of the “hearing” is obviously nugatory and of no legal or judicial effect whatsoever. Below are the additional reasons for our position: First of all, the process by which Honorable Justice Murtala-Nyako exited from the case as the trial judge was a “judicial event”, as it emanated from the COURT ORDER she made on 24th September 2024. A plain reading of the Order shows that Her Lordship graciously consented to the recusal and that alone amounts to an additional factor that endowed the order with more tenacity. Second, of then and now, the said Order is still extant and subsisting and was never appealed. So, it remains valid in all ramifications. To be sure, the Judge cannot REVIEW, REOPEN or REVISIT the matter of her recusal because she became FUNCTUS OFFICIO as of 24th September 2024 when the order was entered and enrolled. In Ukachukwu v. Uba (2005) 18 NWLR (Pt.956), it was held that: "The phrase "functus officio" has been defined to mean a task performed, fulfilling a function or discharging and accomplishing the intended purpose, and when it is referred to a Court, that Court will have no further force or authority in effect it would lack competence or jurisdiction in the matter anymore. It cannot review, re open or re-visit the said matter except under exceptional circumstances.” Third, the point needs to be made that the post-recusal Summons issued to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu that brought us to Court on 10th February 2025 is not to be blamed on the Court alone. The prosecution grandfathered this infamous unconstitutionality by a Letter it wrote to the same Court on 5th December 2024, requesting that the case be re-calendared for a hearing. In our prompt reaction and after a considered view that the said Letter strained the boundaries of prosecutorial misconduct, we countered with a reply, vehemently opposing re-listing the case to be heard before a Judge who is bound by an extant Order of recusal. To this date, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court has not respondent to our Letter.
