Maple had her third session of training with the mat today. Day 1 she figured out she needed to be on the mat and after she was consistently going there, we paired the cue "place". Day 2 continued with the cue and getting her to consistently go to the... mat with the handler on all sides. Today we sat further away from the mat and gave the cue, from a distance, and had her stay there for slightly longer durations. She does very well. We'll continue to practice longer durations and cueing from different spots. Once she's super consistent staying there (that should only take a couple more sessions) and is a bit better at keeping all 4 paws on, we'll add some distractions and take the mat outside and practice. Eventually this will be the behavior she will be asked for if she needs wait quietly. We use it at appointments, coffee shops, checkouts etc. We're often asked what the difference is between a place and a down stay is. When we use a down stay, it means the dog stays in the down position and doesn't move, whereas place is more about a zone. The dog can sit, stand, turn around or lay down, as long as they stay on the mat and behave. It's often used in long durations for working dogs so it gives them the opportunity to reposition themselves to be comfortable. Admin Post; Tonight I started shaping a "Place" on a mat with Kenji. As soon as I put the mat down he sniffed, I clicked and tossed a treat. When he came back, he walked right onto it, I clicked and tossed the treat. And then grabbed my phone because I wanted to capture this. He gave me multiple reps of coming to the mat and retrieving the treat within the first few minutes. He had it figured out so fast. I keep these sessions short. Especially with puppies. I lost his focus a bit because he found a stay treat, but we got it back and he offered the behavior of going to the mat. Multiple times. Tomorrow we'll do a couple reputations and I'll add the cue. It's always amazing to work with a puppy like this. The kind that figures things out so fast. Free shaping has the dog figure out what to do by the timing of the click. I only introduced the clicker yesterday for about 4 minutes. In one session he's doing what took 2-3 sessions with pups 6 weeks older. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. 🐾❤️It's Moon's final day with us. Tonight he goes back to the Service Dog program where he'll have many other adventures. Today he's working on staying in place while the human leaves him and goes and opens the door. This will help him learn to be calm and not try to go exploring when a door opens, and that when he's in place, he can move around or change positions, but can't leave the mat. He makes mistakes because he's learning, but with a few more repetitions, he'll understand. We didn't teach him a whole bunch of new skills while he was here, but what we've taught him is his marker sounds (clicks, yes and good) and his release word so he understands when he's done the thing he was supposed to, when he should keep doing it, and when he's free to go. This is the foundation that will make learning other skills easy. We've also helped him learn to settle calmly when asked and play when appropriate, and we've introduced him to lots of sites and sounds. He's a delightful pup. We're taking a short break from puppies to get stuff caught up around the house, get some appointments done and other human business. But I'm sure we'll have more puppy chaos in the near future. This is a great discussion by Elon Musk at the WEF in Davos on how Optimus will help the elderly. Our population is aging rapidly. Just the other day my grandmother fell and broke her hip. She lives by herself about an hour drive from me, so it's difficult to be there all the time. She was found on the floor laying for 5 hours. The only way we knew something was wrong was because she wasn't answering the phone, we had to drive an hour to see what happened. She refuses a caregiver who lives in the neighborhood to come in and check in on her, she insists that she doesn't need help. Optimus would be a huge lifesaver for her. She can still maintain her independence and have Optimus there to help her when she needs it. Optimus can adjust its help based on her personality and observing what she needs help with so she can still feel independent and active without all the dangers that come with being nearly 90 years old.

This woman is on vacation, she just landed in Florida and she’s all alone on the beach. She decided to wait here on the beach until she could check in at the hotel. She notices a man who was watching her from a distance, then he came over and sat down next to her and even listened to her conversation she had on the phone with her sister. He ended up walking away but he didn’t leave the area when another woman came up to talk to her and warned her about him. The woman wasn’t local and only stayed because she felt the man was very suspicious and she didn’t want anything to happen to the woman on vacation. The woman on vacation ended up waiting inside the local bar and grille as soon as they opened. When you are traveling alone, it’s never a good idea to let that be known, never tell anyone you are from out of town because it makes you a target. If she couldn’t check in until later, couldn’t she just use stayed in the lobby of the hotel with her bags until check in time?

Dede gisting with Joanna. She says she was tipsy and left the party early. Then she went to lay down on the mat and Koyin later joined her. She says that for the first time, there was a weird energy between she and Koyin. That he complimented her "you look so good today" and she was "eww". This is Cindy Crawford. She is a street dog that lives between a 7-11 and some restaurants. She is well known and everybody in the area feeds her. When I spotted her this morning she had given up and I had to lift her off her dangerous position with a kind Thai lady. You could quickly see that this was more serious than just an overfed dog. She’s losing all her fur and it’ll be gone in a week or two. She is riddled with parasites and she is 43kg / 90 Lbs when she should be half that at the very most. She seems to only be about 5 years old. Despite lots of locals and tourists feeding her she is clearly a very sick dog who needs special treatment. That has now started. She can hardly walk 10 yards and she had trouble standing up on her little legs. My dream is to see her running after the moped one day in the future with the other dogs full of energy.
