Here's the two-part Vikhroli Bridge Review with some suggestions on how things can be improved! Tested it during peak morning hours. PART 1 - EEH TO VIKHROLI BRIDGE. DISTANCE: 300 Metres TRAVEL TIME: 20 mins, 39 secs Yes, this is not the bridge itself. But this key stretch, which leads to the bridge, gets jammed because the bridge itself is jammed! It took 20 minutes and 39 seconds just to reach the starting point of the bridge from the EEH ramp at an average speed of 0.87 km/h for 300 metres! Also towards the end of the video, you will spot some 2-wheelers coming from the other side of the bridge, taking a U-Turn to go towards Tagore Nagar and blocking the cars trying to enter the bridge from the EEH side. Yes, the Traffic Police were stationed at the entry managing the traffic, but they seemed helpless and clueless.

#WATCH | Tamil Nadu: Residents staged a road blockade protest at Sanjeevi Nagar on the Tiruchirappalli–Chennai National Highway demanding the speedy completion of maintenance work on the Cauvery Bridge. The old Cauvery Bridge has been closed for the past two days for repair works, resulting in severe traffic congestion and causing major inconvenience to commuters. Protesters said the prolonged closure has led to unbearable delays and urged the authorities to complete the maintenance work at the earliest. Traffic police officials reached the spot and held talks with the protesters in an attempt to pacify them and restore normal traffic. Residents also pointed out that their long-pending demand for the construction of a flyover at Sanjeevi Nagar has remained unresolved for several years. They recalled that the local Member of Parliament had earlier assured that the project would be taken up soon. However, with the closure of the old Cauvery Bridge, traffic congestion has worsened, prompting the public to launch the protest. The traffic jam has stretched for nearly three kilometres, affecting the entire route from Oyamari Road through the Cauvery Bridge, Mambazha Salai, Thiruvanaikaval, Kumbakonathan Salai and the Tiruchirappalli–Chennai National Highway. Vehicles remain stranded, with traffic coming to a complete standstill and commuters unable to move even an inch.

The bridge will make the route between Durban and East London 80km shorter. The bridge’s construction is set to create approximately 8,000 full-time jobs. Once completed, ongoing operation work on the bridge is expected to create 900 direct jobs and up to 18,900 indirect jobs.
