Fidel Castro gave a speech about Che Guevara on October 18, 1967, in Plaza de la Revolución after Che was killed in Bolivia. It was a public memorial where many people came to honor him. In the speech, Castro talked about Che’s personality, describing him as brave, disciplined, and fully devoted to the revolutionary cause. He explained that Che was not only a fighter but also a man with strong moral values who believed deeply in justice and equality. Castro said that they did not come to say goodbye to Che, but to welcome him, meaning that Che’s ideas and example would continue to live among the people. He wanted to show that death does not end a person’s influence, especially someone who sacrificed everything for a cause. The speech was meant to inspire others to follow Che’s path and to stay committed to the revolution. It also helped unite the Cuban people during a difficult moment and turned their sadness into strength and motivation.
