Detective Chen 2 [2026] Directed By: Ashton Chen Currently streaming on iQIYI and man Ashton Chen is definitely not trying to be left behind in the output of action cinema out there and with action choreography by one of the greats in Mainland China, Qin Pengfei. What a year Chinese Action DTV is having, and Ashton has delivered a few bangers already this year. Full review later on today.

The Butcher's Blade 手遮天 [2026] Directed By: Liu Wenpu So far, two solid entries in the Chinese DTV front for martial arts cinema, while this one being better than "The Raid" With many familiar actors in this film from the amazing "Eye For An Eye" series like Liu Fengchao who was also in other Qin Pengfei's films like "Fight Against Evil 2" & Blade Of Fury. This film has solid fight scenes but at times is hampered by the editing. Overall is a fun one with plenty of action an okay story about being used by the powers that be for something he didn't do.

Great to see many Mainland directors been stepping their game up over the past six years which has been held down by Qin Pengfei and Chris Hou. I needed this film to close out this 2025 campaign of action cinema.

The Sin Trade 追恶 [2026] Directed By: Cheng Siyi Finally caught up to this. Part of the new school of Action directors in Mainland China, Cheng Siyi has been making a name of for himself over the past few years. Especially with his 2024 film "Desperado". So far, this is his best output, since he got a fellow director and action choreographer to do the action direction for this film. And when you get a combo like that you sure are going to get a banger. Plenty of action in this film about human trafficking and with the case with Chinese DTV that's usually one of the themes they go with on thier output. Drugs, Human trafficking or Sniper Films, lol. This is currently streaming the West and East on iQIYI. This scene is edited BTW to cut out the drama.

Age of the Legend 英雄年代之九龙秘钥 [2021] Directed By: Li Jianfeng Action Director: Zhang Quancheng Catching up to more of my Chinese action DTV films and finally got to check this out. A lot of fun elements where the inspiration is clearly from early 90s martial art films but with some of these DTV films, they showcase solid choreography but with too many cuts in the fight scenes. Still, I didn't find it too distracting and the overall costume designs are great too, especially seeing the Ninjas at the start of the film. Straightforward story on European forces teaming up with the Japanese to take over the city and many team up to stop them. This is on iQIYI for better quality and also up on their official channel on YouTube for free with various subtitle languages.

There are lots of great fight scenes in Yen-Ping Chu's "A Book of Heroes" (1986), but for me, this one is the most fun and hottest of the lot. The music, the fight & comedy all work to perfection in this scene. If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it. This is the right day to watch as its the 40th anniversary of the movie. You won't be disappointed.
