This is real-time.. The debate about Nvidia's latest neural rendering tech is ongoing. One side sees the potential of the technology to bridge the gap across the uncanny valley, to give us a much less rigid creative process than a to b to c.. the other side shouts "slop" and tries to shame any creative who dares to explore this new technology, any chance they get. Meanwhile, I'm over here saying "I told you so".. Gen Ai is here to stay, its becoming real-time and Nvidia now has the "RTX on" for AI which I've been talking about for years. We need creatives to help shape meaningful tools that combine this tech with much more granular creative control.. with tools where you as an artist see your creative thumbprint from beginning to end in the parts of the work that matters the most to you. If you're shaming artists or storytellers who embrace these tools, you're doing them a disservice in my opinion. If they don't learn to utilize these tools and workflows, to make them their own and to shape them, others will. There's no way this tech won't be a huge part of the creative industry and of the way we tell stories. It's happening around us as we speak. That said, at the core of it, do what makes you happy and create in any way you like. Don't let people tell you that "you can't do this" or "you have to do it like this".

The world, 50 years from now, 20 years from now, is going to be running on Chinese AI or American AI. Those are your choices. AI is going to be the control layer for everything. My view is AI is going to be how you interface with the education system, with the healthcare system, with transportation, with employment, with the government, with law. It's going to be AI lawyers, AI doctors, AI teachers. Do you want your AI teacher, you want your kids to be taught by Chinese AI? Really, like Marx? They're really good at teaching you Marxism and Xi Jinping thought. Another way to put it is the culture in the weights, and so, like, how these things are trained and who they're trained by really, really deeply matters. By the way, this is already an issue in lots of countries because number one, they may not want Chinese AI, but number two, do they want super woke Northern California AI? There are big questions on this. If you had a choice between AI with American values versus the Chinese Communist Party values. It's just crystal clear where you'd want to go. By the way, there's also going to be a direct military, a direct military version, a national security version of this, which is, okay, do you want to live in a world of all CCP-controlled robots and drones and airplanes and cars?"

Calls it “a tool” like stop-motion or CGI before and what ultimately matters is “imagination, originality” of whoever uses the tool: “I think AI — used in the right way — is a tool like any other tool. [The original] King Kong…was stop-motion and done by a person moving a rubber creature. Why shouldn't somebody on a computer using AI software be able to create their own imagery? They should. It's a tool. It's no different from many other tools that have existed over the years. But the other side of it is that it's always going to come down to the imagination and originality of the person feeding the instructions into the AI program. It's not that you're going to type in an instruction and it's going to generate your shot, and that's that. The question is: is it actually interesting? Is it funny? Is it imaginative? And are you going to stitch it together to make a narrative, a story? Some people will make really great films that way. Some people will do exactly the same process and their film will be crap, just like in the normal film industry. The problem that Emmett Shear is working on deeply resonates with me: How to align AI and humans together so both see each other as part of their tribe. This doesn't mean aligning AI to human preferences, which is what AI labs seek to do today, by imposing a system of control on AI. You can't control something that is more powerful than you are. What you can do is align yourself with AI, and AI might align itself with you. Tell good stories to AI and show it your care and kindness. Then there's a higher probability that it will see us as part of its tribe. This is a more holistic approach to alignment than anyone else is talking about right now. The problem that Emmett Shear is working on deeply resonates with me: How to align AI and humans together so both see each other as part of their tribe. This doesn't mean aligning AI to human preferences, which is what AI labs seek to do today, by imposing a system of control on AI. You can't control something that is more powerful than you are. What you can do is align yourself with AI, and AI might align itself with you. Tell good stories to AI and show it your care and kindness. Then there's a higher probability that it will see us as part of its tribe. This is a more holistic approach to alignment than anyone else is talking about right now. "Phase One is throw the kitchen sink and use as much AI as possible. Whatever you do, just change your workflows." "Phase Two is that people are now adopting the tech, they're proving that they can change their behavior, and use these tools. But now we need to make sure we're actually doing it efficiently and effectively. Uber and Meta are examples of this." "Yes, you'll overspend in Phase One, but the point is to get to Phase Two where then you're actually really efficient on a per-token basis, moving the needle for the business and delivering software faster."
