Finally we can sample depth buffer using new Raycast node in shaders. Here is an use case with custom soft particles. #Blender #b3d

Another example. #Blender #b3d

This looks extremely useful! Will you share the screen capture of the nodes? I want to learn!

@Trinumedia I still can't figure out how you placed the Raycast and Follow Distance nodes in your node tree. They aren't in the Material nodes; they're located in Geometry Nodes. Please help me)

@Trinumedia The Falloff distance node is just Value node. I just renamed it to Falloff distance

Holy shit I've been waiting so long for this

you must be crazy

@MatterCg

Are you using a particle system setup similar to Unity? A flat plane with a texture that always faces the camera?

Yes

Holy moly, I always missed Depth Fade from Unreal Engine in blender! Mostly for fog/cloud cards

Ooh very nice, i always wondering why blender doesn't have this as built in especially for eevee 🤔

Soft particles via the Raycast node is really clever. The blending looks clean.

ooooooo, what version is this? and is this eevee only or does it work on cycles as well

The smoke pass through the chair.
