It’s the same in engineering. We make so many assumptions, like laminar flow. Or negligee heat transfer. Or elastic deformation. Or a system is approximately closed. Etc etc. I’m pivoting from engineering to quant finance. Much more real applications funny enough.

Yep, 'why' is important because it is the foundation but maths is about data, and data gives you feedback which plays a massive role in your next move.
