The move was made after there was a "significant" flare-up last night regarding the Palisades fire. The DC-10 was manufactured by McDonnell Douglas and is somewhat comparable to the Boeing 747 but is able to use shorter runways. The Palisades Fire grew by 1,000 acres overnight.

watching the aerial assault from my backyard this morning. all efforts right now are locked in on making sure the palisades fire doesn’t jump the 405 (nightmare scenario). two dc-10 air tankers finally arrived. they fly to the fire from San Bernardino and dump a MASSIVE line of phos-chek fire retardant then fly back to re-up. each drop costs around $55,000. from this vantage point you can really see how massive the fire line is on this flank. absolutely crazy.

Maybe a slight issue with the doors after the drop is made? Or maybe just some residual retardant coming out. Either way, pretty incredible. The Palisades Fire is now 22% contained and the Eaton Fire has drastically increased containment to 55%. The Hurst Fire is basically wrapped up at 98% contained.
