The next day, the hospital found the staff. We did the case the right way. Standing up for what’s right worked this time. But here’s the thing: as physicians, we’re expected to uphold the highest standards—no shortcuts, no compromises. And yet we’re constantly asked to accept compromises everywhere else: staffing, time, resources. It doesn’t add up. If we want excellence for patients, we need excellence around the patient, too. It’s time to start insisting on it.
