"Now GERD is 100% full, the same as the Aswan Dam," he said. He added, "I told President Sisi that during the filling of the GERD, the Aswan Dam would not lose a single liter of water." On the contrary, he clearly emphasized the need to ensure an equitable flow of Nile waters, implicitly warning that any imbalance or injustice in water distribution could lead to unrest and instability in the region. In his speech, President Mohamud stated: "Water resources are managed differently in each country. For some, it is a matter of survival and security; for others, it is about energy and growth. Our challenge is to balance these needs with fairness and respect. Ethiopia has the right to pursue prosperity." Thus, his speech was not an absolute bias toward Ethiopia at Egypt's expense but rather an attempt to stress the necessity of finding a balance between development and fairness in sharing Nile waters. In reality, the #GERD is entirely funded by the people of #Ethiopia through public contributions and domestic resources. It poses no threat to #Egypt’s water security. 🚨#Breaking: Djibouti Offers Ethiopia Full Control of Port in Bid to Counter Somaliland Djibouti's Foreign Minister, Mahmoud Ali Youssef ( Mahmoud Ali youssouf ), has proposed granting Ethiopia 100% control of the port of Tajourah, along with a new corridor leading to the port, as a solution to Ethiopia's lack of sea access. In an interview with the BBC, Youssef stated that the proposal, which includes a newly constructed corridor connecting the port to the Ethiopian border, aims to resolve Ethiopia's longstanding issue of accessing the sea. He indicated that President Ismail Oma Geela will discuss the proposal with leaders from Somalia and Ethiopia during the upcoming China-Africa summit next week. The proposal comes amidst heightened tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia over the recent agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland, which Somalia vehemently opposes. Ethiopia Could Become the Epicenter of a Larger Conflict While Ethiopia attempts to remain uninvolved in the Sudanese conflict, it has been arming itself and repeatedly asserting that access to the sea is an existential issue for the country. Ethiopian officials have stated that "3 million Eritreans cannot decide the fate of nearly 200 million Ethiopians." In recent months, tensions in the region have risen sharply, with separatist threats emerging inside Ethiopia and Eritrea providing direct support to the Sudanese government in its civil war. The reality is that Ethiopia has been significantly strengthening its air force. It currently operates many less capable aircrafts, but also 20 Su-27s and few Su-30s, and in the last month it has reportedly ordered 6 Su-35s. Eritrea today lacks the capacity to face a unified Ethiopia with a strong air force. However, Egypt has entered the equation by conducting military exercises and deepening cooperation with Eritrea and Somalia, two countries that are openly hostile to Ethiopia. Even with Egyptian support - without direct involvement- these two countries can’t beat an unified Ethiopia. But under this hot temperature, If Ethiopia were to launch an offensive against Eritrea, this might encourage already restive and armed regions within Ethiopia to seek independence, potentially repeating the Sudanese civil war into a broader catastrophe across the Horn of Africa.

Perhaps the U.S.’s new much talked about shift from “aid to investment and trade” has already started. Glad to know that Dr. Pham and Ambassador Tibor Nagy, former U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia, who just rejoined the state Dept, and who knows the region very well, will influence the big U.S. economic policy changes coming to the Horn. This should be very good news for implementing pragmatic U.S. policies to support the transformation of the economies in Eastern Africa, including Ethiopia, the region’s largest economy and Africa’s second most populous country.
