I spent my day watching the place I love more than anything in the world be irreversibly destroyed for no reason. There is not a single logical explanation for what DHS and its contractors are doing to Big Bend. It has become perfectly clear: they are using the destruction of this crown jewel national park as a vehicle to transfer billions of taxpayer dollars into the pockets of these politically connected contractors. They are sacrificing our public lands so obscenely rich men who have never once set foot here can get even richer. And if they can do it here in Texas' wildest and most beloved national park, they will do it everywhere. Governor Abbott, Senators Cruz and Cornyn: WHERE ARE YOU?!

CBP is pausing all construction activity in Big Bend National Park while I visit and conduct a personal, on-the-ground evaluation. CBP is firmly committed to protecting America, and that includes our national treasures like Big Bend National Park (BBNP). We know the current and predictable national security threats and they are real. Now over the next couple of days, I will join a small team to evaluate the terrain and listen to local leadership, community members and stakeholders to ensure that we secure our borders while simultaneously protecting BBNP for generations to come.

In the Big Bend, decisions about security and infrastructure should be driven by demonstrated need and the realities on the ground, not simply by applying the same solution to every mile of the border. This is our home. We know the terrain, we know the challenges, and we know what our communities and law enforcement face every day. Secure the border with the tools that actually fit the mission.

Why is Hindu faith so often made fun of or questioned? Even though we are the majority in our own country, every time it feels like the rules are not the same for everyone. Rules should be equal and fair for all, especially in exams and public places. If there are special provisions like reservations for minorities, then at least the basic rules should be the same for everyone. Equality means treating every belief with the same respect.

It’s insulting for foreigners to hold official offices and lecture us for being racist when we criticise them. New Zealand should be for New Zealanders, and people like Lawrence Xu-Nan should be encouraged to go back home again, in his case to China.
