There’s no easier made sale than selling health to someone with a sick loved one. - It’s opportunistic in the darkest way.

Well, I am an actual "rocket scientist" and in my professional opinion this is one of the best talks on privatized HC I've heard. Well done.

Where are they going to get this magical supply of nurses and doctors for private health care? I expect they'd just pay a little extra and poach them from the public system. The public doesn't gain anything.

Profilbild von Rob VandenBrink

Ramping up private healthcare just siphons off Drs and Nurses from the public system, because there’s more money to be made. There is no magical pool of private healthcare folks - it’s all the same people. Train more people, pay them enough to stay in province. Common sense yes?

There is lots to debate here, but keep in mind, your doctors office, in most cases, is a private business, but with one payer, the government.

Agreed however the danger is in setting up a parallel private patient paid Doctors option. Do you want the free one or the better one? I’ll take the better one and good luck to you. For example,

Part of the problem with the current system is that hospital executives are rewarded based on private sector kpis. Instead of giving bonuses based on labour hours they should be bonused on patient outcomes and wait times

Bottom line is, if we’ve got the money to pay the private service we have the money to invest in improvements in the public system. Doug Ford has used and is continuing to use the illness and death of thousands of Ontario citizen taxpayers to line the pockets of his rich cronies

The most successful health care systems in the world are a public private mix. They are less expensive per citizen and have superior outcomes. Take a look at Germany. Time for Canada to open its eyes and stop being stuck on what is not working.

Profilbild von Just David

It’s an interesting take , but the private health care idea “is to run parallel”to what’s existing to lower the wait times, every person who can afford to pay speeds up service for those that can’t. They are not taking away any services, you forgot that part.

@steffanwatkins So, private healthcare is not being proposed-single payer remains the model but private clinics will be leveraged to take some of the work off the public hospitals. Still free to the user. Same way pretty much all of Europe and Scandinavia do it. So maybe stop the fearmongering.

Great explanation! Does anyone in #Ottawa recall a clinic that performed colonoscopies and other procedures - private if I recall correctly- that had issues with improper sterilization of equipment. Ugh!

A private for-profit service should not be commanding tax dollars as part of its business model.

U left out the part on how monopolies affect markets. If u are going to use economic forces to describe Private vs Public HC surely U should consider the Monopoly on delivery. Monopolies affect Price,Supply Quality, & hold too much Power in a market.

Public healthcare means the patient has little control over the service and gets whatever the government is willing to give with zero incentive for quality.. Officials get everything and the majority gets poverty through paying for it all the time under threat of violence.

Rationed healthcare was always doomed to fail right from the start. Canada will continue its downward slide in world healthcare rankings if the current trajectory continues. No amount of money will prevent this from happening.

At the end of the day our issue lies in the number of professionals providing the care & not the building they work in. Issue won’t fix by this move. But to be clear we already have a two tiered system…ask anyone with chronic issues…we pay $$$ for daughters physio 🤷🏻‍♀️

Government healthcare is wasteful and not actually that great at looking after people's health. Plus hypochondriac moms clog up emergency rooms anytime their kid has a case of the sniffles, because hey, "it's free", right?
