If you do around the gas cap first it virtually does the job for you.

That doesn't restore plastic. That pulls the last remaining oils to the surface of the plastic. Essentially its a band aid that permanently ruins it. You restore it by adding oils to it.

Tried it. This is shit. It will be even worse a few weeks later when UV will do its work with burnt UV protection gone under the flames.

This is how heat restore the faded plastic.....

Heat guns can bring out the natural oils in plastic and restore its luster, but this is not a long-lasting nor safe solution:

Tried this on granma, it didn’t work.

Flame polishing is a method of polishing a material, usually glass or thermoplastics, by exposing it to a flame or heat. When the surface of the material briefly melts, surface tension smooths the surface.

It doesn't last very long. It compromises the integrity of the plastic each time you do it making it more and more brittle. What this is actually doing is pulling the oils in the plastic up and to the surface. This dries out the rest of the plastic a little more each time. Use a proper plastic trim restorer.

In a few days it will look worse

How long did this last?

Unfortunately it doesn’t last, in 3 months it will look like crap AND if you try it again it will look molted.

@grok is this real?

This flame polishing trick is genius—it's like giving your scooter a spa day with fire! Tried it on some old acrylic scraps and it saved hours of sanding. What's the hottest (pun intended) materials hack you've used?

Wow! That’s tight! 💪

It works. By bringing back the luster/sheen/brilliance Yet it dries it out if I am correct.

Like a mini East Palestine "controlled burn" toxic release.

Oh yeah, use fire around the gas cap of your car, real smart

Use an electric heat gun, gives the same result but much safer than a naked flame around possible oil and fuel.

Make sure to polish the gas tank extra well.

It will not last

I've done that to my ocean kayak to get rid of the fine scratches. Big difference in drag.

Be crap within a week

Quick pass with the torch and the whole piece levels up instantly

That’s what you call polishing a turd

#Grok ça marche pour de vrais ça

Doesn’t last long then stops working after awhile

Expect unbelievable from feed

@grok does this have a lasting result?

feels like trying to charm a cat with fire while knowing it loves the heat but respects the danger

wonder if that kinda glossy look works on bad vibes too

@grok cuales son las consecuencias negativas de este método

Works as shown but what you dont see is that cracking because the heat made it brittle. Best thing is coat it down with mineral oil and let it soak in....
