Flight attendant training at Japan Airlines is reportedly intense. This probably helped play a factor in getting everyone evacuated off Flight 516. JAL opened this ``Emergency Rescue Training Center'' in March 2014 at Haneda Airport. Via Jiji Press:

Reminder that these should be common sense for any commercial flight passengers: 1. Wear only comfortable type of running shoes/sneakers. 2. Always put travel docs and a small portions of your prescription meds inside a lockable small pouch. Keep it with you all the time!

This is an international requirement not only for Japan. Every airline and aircraft manufacturer must be able to evacuate an airplane in under 90 seconds. Most flight attendants get certified every year on evacuation.

Training for a catastrophe in a safe environment versus actually performing those tasks whilst your plane is engulfed in flames and you're terrified are two different things in my opinion. Hats off and a huge round of applause for the passengers and the incredible JAL staff.

You can be the best trained FA out there but if the passengers don’t listen to u, it will still result in chaos. Kudos to the JAL FAs, but let’s also commend the passengers for being obedient despite being scared out of their wits. No one stood & ran when it wasn’t time to do so.

Can I recommend the installation in all commercial aircraft of a locking mechanism that the cabin crew can activate during an emergency that instantaneously locks all the overhead luggage compartments.

All flight attendants’ trainings are intense. The passengers’ education made a huge difference. Kudos to both crew and passengers! 🥰

This could also be reflection of the Japanese passengers’ self-discipline. Some other nationalities would have had deaths due to crushing!

Its JAL domestic!! So most passengers n crew are Japanese 😁 No surprises here.. Both crew n ppl are trained from childhood on crisis evacuations.. So much better off than any other country.. It's the training..
