5 Plays To Punish A 2-3 Zone When Rick Pitino was at Louisville, he played a lot of zone. I remember watching an interview with him and he was asked about his new defensive philosophy. He had always been known as a coach who liked to press and play aggressive man to man defense. Something from his answer stuck with me. He said a major reason that he was playing zone was because it made his game prep easier. When coaching man defense, there are countless actions and offenses opponents can run. Against zone, there are a few actions you see over and over again. I think there’s some truth to that. There are only so many zone offenses. If you rely solely on your zone offense, you might end up taking the shots your opponent wants you to take. And that’s why it’s important that you have some plays you can go to that will get you a great shot against a zone. I’m all in on Washington CB Tacario Davis as a Day 2 swing for the fences pick. Ultra rare tools with 4.4 speed at 6’4 and 34” arms. It’s impossible to throw over the top on this guy. He’s a press man/cover 3 guy all the way. Like most of these taller corners, his lack of lateral fluidity gets him in trouble in off coverage. But just like K-State safety VJ Payne, this dude has one of the highest upsides at the position if put in the right scheme. I was high on Nahshon Wright coming out of Oregon State and Davis is in that same mold, just more athletically gifted.

After getting brain damage 2 weeks ago and being told he had to be put to sleep it’s been a steep learning curve for little Stormzy. He keeps falling but he refuses to stay down. It’s become obvious that his recovery will take some time. He needs patience, love and medical care. So we spoke with his owner and he agreed. He is a lovely man who had Stormzy’s 2 other siblings and lives in a very busy area. He was delighted when we said we could give Stormzy a better life. We are also helping him with sterilizing the dogs in his area. He is a very good man. Especially to know what is best for Stormzy. I’m sure our inbox will be full of requests about Stormzy but the truth is that’s a long way off. He needs a lot of patience and care which he will get with us. From a scouting perspective, Dach had a very impressive shift. He made an excellent defensive play deep in his zone to spin away from the opponent. Nice puck skills and speed exiting the zone, smart feed to Newhook on the rush, solid puck retrievals in the O zone, and chip to Newhook. A solid hit to take Fabbro out of the play went to the front of the net and bumped Fabbro away with the purpose of establishing a net-front presence. Even his shot was decent other than not raising the puck but that is often the case that close in...it was simply a great save. He also diligently got two more cracks at it, and had the right idea. Two more good saves. I loved that shift from him. If he does that consistently, he will start producing.

Here he is singing "Proud to be an American" in front of a crowd, despite the fact that he testified that he can barely speak English and his online postings show that his primary allegiance is to Ukraine. The fact that he does this so publicly on a cruise departing from Boston, not realizing that millions of people have seen what a corrupt cop he he is during the Karen Read trial and how he covered for the most racist cop in America, shows how oblivious he is to reality. Wherever these people go they are going to be recognized for all the wrong reasons. They will be branded with the stain of corruption for the rest of their lives.

If the Miami Dolphins don't land Mauigoa, Fano or Ioane with the #11 pick, I will be one of the ones in this fanbase pounding the table for Keylan Rutledge at #30 (if he's still on the board) if upgrading the offensive trenches on Day 1 is one of the new regime's goals. He not only made my annual Draft Man Crush List but he was one of the funnest watches this whole draft cycle for me. Absolute bulldozer in the run game and a really good pass protector, Rutledge is 6’3 ¾, 316 lbs., with a bulky, wide frame that has good length to it (33 ¼ arms and 80’ wingspan), plays with a lot of power and physicality with that nasty, take your head off to feed my family type of demeanor you love to see. Plus, as seen by the combine testing that backed up his film, he’s a very smooth, fluid mover for his size. #PhinsUp
