TROPICS UPDATE: GRAF model shows the possible timing and movement of the Gulf low over the weekend. It could be a significant rain-maker for the Florida Gulf coast, as the models show very slow drifting towards the east. There is still a low chance (20%) of tropical development.

There’s lots of “rumors” of future tropical storms. It’s probably a bit confusing. So let’s try to cut through all the tropical “noise” out there. There are two main things we are watching for the next two weeks. 1. A tropical wave near Africa which is likely to form by mid to late week and near the Lesser Antilles next Friday-ish. That will “most likely” be deflected out to sea by west to east steering over Florida/ Bahamas. 2. Moisture will gather in the Central Caribbean in about 10 days. It will “attempt” to develop. It may or may not happen. At that time a large upper low should be over the Gulf. It should drag any system Northeast. BUT here’s the key… if it’s delayed -or- if a piece is left behind, then a track WNW towards the Gulf is possible in about two weeks. Bottom line: While I can’t tell you exactly how strong and exactly where systems may track, I can give you a general overview of what needs to be watched to elucidate the pattern. Stay tuned!!

Drought to Deluge! Developing El Niño gives us an early preview of the pattern for late fall and winter. A strong Subtropical Jetstream will hover near Texas, Louisiana and the lower MS Valley through the next 1-2 weeks. Rainfall may total a foot plus in spots in the next 10 days with more possible after that. Medium range models can underestimate the rainfall. This jet is powered by a record warm Eastern Pacific, associated with the developing El Niño. School ball is coming to a close, and you start to realize that some of these seniors I’ve played baseball with or against since I was 4 years old. Some of these guys I’ve played T ball with. And in just a few weeks…. It will be over. I won’t see them in the hall next year, I won’t see them in class, they won’t be in the clubhouse next year, they won’t be suited up to play in practice or games. They will be gone. Gone on to bigger and better things- off to different colleges around the country. Some will be playing college ball others will just be starting their next chapter somewhere else. In the end…. It’s been a great ride- proud to be your teammate and friend. Don’t take one moment for granted and on to the next chapter. Love this game. Panama City Beach has changed city ordnances over the past couple years to deter these types of activities during Spring Break weeks and it seems to have largely worked during those weeks. But as this 3rd world behavior becomes more common in American cities, especially when it's warm, they may have to implement those ordnances throughout the summer. With all of that said, Panama City Beach is not where I'd recommend anyone go in Florida who wants to relax. There's plenty of slow beaches in Florida and that hasn't been one of them for decades.
